i hate to place blame, but it is a reality of the game that sometimes your starting pitcher just doesn't have his stuff. in reality he should have been pulled in the 1st, but they wanted to keep the order in tact so they basically threw in the towel to keep him in there.
they have pulled off the tarp so we may be getting back to baseball soon

Buckeyes crushed by Georgia 24-8
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Ohio State found itself in a huge first-inning hole that it could not recover from and ended up losing a first round NCAA tournament game to Georgia at Dick Howser Field, 24-8 in front of 3,101 fans. The teams waited through a severe weather suspension of play for more than five hours. The game was suspended at 1:48 p.m. in the bottom of the fifth inning with Georgia leading, 10-2, and didn?t resume until 7 p.m., a span of 5:12.
Ohio State, 40-18, now plays the loser of the game pitting No. 1 Florida State vs. No. 4 Marist in a noon elimination game Saturday. That Florida State/Marist game began about 9 p.m.
Baseball is a funny game. Ohio State had ace, second-team All-American Alex Wimmers on the mound against a solid hitting Georgia team, but the Bulldogs came into the game hitting just .203 as a team over their last 10 games. So no one expected that Georgia would have its biggest inning of the season against Wimmers...and in the first inning, no less.

The Buckeyes, now 41-18 on the season, play at noon Sunday against Georgia, an 8-2 loser Saturday to Florida State.
"I think the key today was our playing good defense," Ohio State coach Bob Todd said. "We didn?t give them any second opportunities with zero errors and three double plays. So we win and get to play another day."
Senior closer Jake Hale extended his single season saves record by pitching 2.0 shutdown innings for his 17th save this season and he set a new Ohio State career mark with his 28th career save.

The announcers are speculating about the Texas 25-inning game being longer than any major league game.
From memory, the MLB record in 26 innings, a tie game involving Brooklyn. I'll go look it up, and come back and edit this.
EDIT - the announcers just said the longest MLB game was in 1984, a 25-inning game with the White Sox, and that 'The Internet's a great thing".
Apparently they suck at the Internet. Per MLB - In 1920, there was a 1-1 tie in 26 innings between Brooklyn and the Boston Braves.
