Which musher will get his sled team over 1,000 miles across Alaska to become the official winner of the 2008 Iditarod?

Neat vBet idea. Here is a picture of 4 time winner Susan Butcher that I took in 2002.

Sadly she died of leukemia in 2006.

That scene is familiar - You took that from a paddle-wheel boat, right? :wink2:

BB73,

Re: This event will accept bets until 03-05-2008 at 12:00 PM

Did you know that the race has already started?

Former champ Seavey takes Iditarod lead - UPI.com

I met Mitch Seavey a few years before he won. His son took us for for a sled ride with some of their dogs, and we saw some pups, at least one of which was probably part of the winning team.

And Script, my brain has not turned to mush, nor do I have brain-freeze. :wink2: Here's a post I made earlier in another forum:

OK, you're bored. You have to wait a couple of weeks to see what happened to the vCash you tossed on the NCAA basketball threads, and even longer than that on the NBA threads. And that idiot BB73 hasn't yet created a vbet for tOSU-Purdue tomorrow. So you NEED something to bet on.

So here's a vbet on an event that started a couple of days ago! And you have almost 48 hours to still decide in which direction you want your vCash to go. The event will end less than a week after the betting is closed, probably next Monday or Tuesday.

It's the Iditarod vBet in the "Other tOSU/Pro Sports" forum. You can toss some vCash at a musher and then follow his/her progress for the next week, either in a casual manner (looking at the standings once every day or so) or addictively (refreshing your screen every 5 minutes, waiting for the latest standings to be posted, losing sleep because the end is in sight). The race standings are typically updated about once per hour at their web page, www.itidarod.com. If you get hooked, you'll want to bookmark: Current Standings

I was in McGrath, AK. this past September, and had a few meals at Suzi's Iditarod cafe. McGrath is a stopping point in the race. Don't know if any of you have noticed the winter much of Alaska has had this year? It has been brutally cold. Those teams operating in brutal conditions have my respect. So much for global warming!

I made some pretty husky bets , but I bet bb73 will be the lead dog in this vmoney race.

Husky bets? 10k? That is the amount of vcash I use to wipe my ass.

I am hoping that BB makes the same mistake as in the #1 seed NCAA wager and gives me another opening to make up some ground. The vmoney race is not over yet!

I knew you wouldn't let this one go BB, waiting til the last minute....

I like the positions of Gebhardt and Backen, although they're currently listed as 4th and 5th. Positions shift constantly, depending on where each team takes a rest. Sometimes it's not at a checkpoint, which makes it difficult to judge somebody's average speed.

And did you know that at the mandatory 24-hour rest stop, everybody gets an additional time delay, based on their staggered starting position, in order to even off their time on the trail? That gives Gebhardt a 2 hour advantage over King and Mackey that doesn't show in the current standings. :wink2:

King and Mackey are probably still the favorites. If I had to re-do the odds now, though, I'd probably flip the pair of 9-1's on Buser and Willomitzer with the pair of 19-1's on Backen and Gebhardt, or maybe move Buser to a 14-1 and knock Ramey Smyth down to 19-1.

But it was interesting to watch the race unfold for a couple of days while deciding where to place your money, wasn't it?
