O-Zone: OMG. Just left interviews and got some stuff on two of the new freshmen.

Jim Heacock called Kieth Wells and Nathan Williams the two best freshman defensive ends he has had while at Ohio State. Just to put that in perspective, Will Smith and Darrion Scott came in together as defesnive ends.

Wells is probably the more athletic of the two, but the players, Heacock, and to some extent Jim Tressel have hinted that Williams is going to be a very, very good one. Shaun Lane couldn't stop talking about Williams yesterday (story tomorrow on all this, so this is a preview) and Heacock almost gushed about the way Williams has played.

He looked so good that I didn't even realize that it was a true frosh. Wasn't until after the game and I read in his thread that he got playing time that I went back to watch specifically for NW and KW. NW looked sharp. [strike] Going to be [/strike] Is a good one.

Loved the play where Nate chased down the QB from about 20+ yds away. By the time he got past the tackle, the QB was well on his way out wide and upfield, and had Jenkins and others closing in (seemingly stopped). But he gave chase, the QB broke those tackles, and Nate finished him off.

BN11, the player wearing 11 on ST's is Sabino.
Don't think the announcers would have credited Scott (wore 11 in '07) with the tackle, he's off the team.
Stoneburner wears 11, but he did not see any PT against Troy

Agreed that the announcers shouldn't have credited Scott with the tackle after first calling Stoneburner's name.

But the play-by-play man did say it was Scott. Not arguable.

I can also confirm the double incorrect call. I kinda laughed when they called out Stoney's name, knowing he's likely to redshirt. Then, when they said they had a "correction" and credited Scott, I was pretty stunned. I mean, I know that there are a LOT of players on the rosters these days with a LOT of duplicate numbers, but aren't these announcers doing this for a LIVING? If we, who spend much of our free time studying players/numbers/stats can see errors like that, why can't these professionals? At least with Stoney, it was someone who's still on the roster.

I was half expecting them to call out Schlegel's name after #51 made a play later in the game.

Wow! That is a shocker, I should not dispute what you heard because I didn't hear the B10 network broadcast.
You are right, with all their technologies, booth spotters, and roster lists available, that level of error by the B10 network is inexcusable!
Maybe they ought to have an intern with a laptop in the booth to keep track of the players and tendencies of the game.

These announcers prepared a premade flashback to the last QB controversy, talking about how troy sat and watched 3 losses, took over and didn't lose again, pummeled ND, and finished #5 (because teams finish #5 losing 3 in a row including NW). Too bad he lost to Purdue and they went to the Alamo Bowl. Accuracy is not the strong suit of football coverage these days.

Against USC (I'm late on this), DE Nathan Williams became the 8th true freshman to play, out of a class of 19. At this point, you would expect the other 11 to redshirt, unless injuries strike. Those 11 would be: Ben Buchanan, Nic DiLillo, Zach Domicone, Garrett Goebel, Travis Howard, Ohrian Johnson, Jermil Martin, Willie Mobley, Jake Stoneburner, Andrew Sweat and Keith Wells.
