I saw this linked on another site. It's a guide for who you should root for depending on what team you like. It looks like they want your opponents to win and anybody ranked around you to lose. Obviously this isn't as handy when you're already ranked #2...

Well, I don't get it. It appears that I should want (almost) everyone in the Top 25 to lose, unless they're playing someone higher in the Top 25. I should also want everyone in my own conference (future opponents) to win. So far, so good. But tell me why I should want #87 Idaho to beat (no number) North Dakota, or for that matter why I should want #21 LSU to beat #18 North Carolina?

That would be more handy for Iowa who needs to climb over some teams to get to the title game. As for Ohio State, win and you are in. Take care of business on the field and we won't have to worry about what everyone else is doing.

You want Idaho to win because you play Idaho thus it helps your SOS

LSU probably just because they are the lower ranked team since you don't play and have no common opponents with either team

Don't you simply want all your opponents to win as many games as possible, if only because you want to beat a larger number of higher rated opponents?

im a fan of the ohio state university. they do not need anyone to win, except that they most score more points than the other team every game. thus, they control their own destiny.

Right thats pretty straightforward

However there also might be situations where you want opponents of your opponents to win because that factors into S.O.S. This lays that out pretty nicely I believe. Of course it's not a perfect system there could be a situation where a lower ranked team early in the year is facing one of their only chances to get knocked off and doesn't factor in potential preferences in NCG opponents (Like in 07 we woulda probably been better off is Mizzou or WVU had won so we would have gotten to play them as opposed to both losing)

I try my best to ignore this stuff. I am extremely bad juju for any team I root for, with the exception of OSU.
