NCAA Football: Rose Bowl-Ohio State at Oregon

You ask, we answer. Sometimes we ask, others answer. And then other times, we ask, we answer.

Throughout the year, we will be asking and answering questions about various
Ohio State teams, the players, and anything else on our collective minds of varying degrees of importance. If you have a question that you would like to ask, you can tweet us @LandGrant33 or if you need more than 280 characters, send an email HERE.

As you may or may not have noticed, this is “Most Telling Stat Week” here at Land-Grant Holy Land. So, for this week’s fan survey, we are going to ask you about two of the most straightforward counting stats in football, touchdowns and sacks.

With all of the turnover on Ohio State’s roster, the Buckeyes lost both its sack-leader last year (J.T. Tuimoloau, 12.5) and co-TD scorer (Quinshon Judkins tied Jeremiah Smith with 16). So, with new faces across the board, we wanted to see who you think will fill those holes.

Get the rundown of both questions below and then vote in the survey underneath. And, if the player you want to pick isn’t mentioned in the survey, feel free to head down to the comments and write him in.

Question 1: Which Buckeye will finish with more touchdowns this year?

Obviously the easy answer here is Jeremiah Smith, since he was tied with the aforementioned Quinshon Judkins for the team lead last year. However, now that he is officially WR1, what if the extra attention gives a guy like Carnell Tate or Brandon Inniss more opportunities to score. Or, what if eiterh C.J. Donaldson or James Peoples takes on more of an RB1 role than either Judkins or TreVeyon Henderson last year and gets to 20 TDs?

There there is the introduction of potential first-year starting quarterback security blanket in transfer tight end Max Klare.

I think I’d still go with J.J., but there are arguments to be made elsewhere.

Question 2: Which Buckeye will finish with more sacks this year?

Of the guys in our survey, Sonny Styles was head and shoulders above the rest with six sacks last season, but that wasn’t even half of what J.T.’s team lead was. Caden Curry only put up 2.5 sacks last year, but he and Kenyatta Jackson (1.5 sacks in 2024) will be the ones replacing Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer, so they seem like strong candidates.

But we still don’t know how Matt Patricia and Larry Johnson are going to deploy C.J. Hicks, or how much of a force inside Eddrick Houston is going to be. Then there’s the linebacker who will be playing opposite Styles. Last year, Cody Simon was third on the team with seven sacks; a more freakishly athletic Arvell Reese could have the potential to do even more.

What do you think?
