Which BPers have tats? (merged with earlier thread)

Tattoos and piercings are slowly becoming more acceptable in professional careers. I cover mine, I never wear shirts at work that are shorter and 3/4 length. I do not make any attempt to take out my ear rings however but I keep them small and unobtrusive and matching. My tongue piercing is placed farther back than most and people generally don't even notice it.

Once I have been at a place for a couple years and have gotten some positive reviews and raises and such, I will be less concerned with the sleeve length and people will discover the forearm piece. I don't hang out with people from work so the one on my back doesn't get seen. Every once in awhile the tongue bar might get noticed but because is has always taken the person at least a year to notice it, the question of how "non professional of an appearance" it might have is already answered.

When I got my arm tattoo my mother was upset. In her generation no tattoo would ever be put anywhere you couldn't hide it in shorts and short sleeves because NO ONE could get a "real job" with one.

This is changing. And I'm glad to see it.

Nearly 50% of Americans between 21 and 32 have at least one tattoo or a piercing other than in an ear, according to a 2006 study by the University of Chicago and Northwestern University. Men and women alike say their tattoos make them feel sexy and rebellious, a 2003 Harris Poll found, while the unadorned of both genders see body art as unsightly and think those with tattoos and piercings are less intelligent and less attractive.

Just took my brother (he's 17) to get his second tatoo this past Tues.

It's a nice sized Celtic Cross (with very good realistic colors & 3D detail) with the words "Gift From God" above it (the meaning of his Name, Nathan) on his left shoulder blade.

Made me start to consider adding some more ink to my body (I've got two small tatoos on my back currently.

He got his first last year, a small Shamrock on his shoulder.

I knew I wanted a tattoo (or many) when I was 10 and watched my mom get her koi. I wish someone had taken me in hand and helped me find a GOOD tattooist the first time. I had a beautiful hand drawn custom design that got turned into what amounted in look to a jailhouse tat. It's received a recolor along the way to try to make it more presentable but its getting a complete coverup as soon as I can afford it.

ooo..maybe for my birthday I should just tell people to go in together on a gc to my tattoo parlor...hm.....:susp:
