Everyone has moments in their life that they'll never forget. Historic moments are those mements where everyone remembers where they were when they heard the news. For me those moments are Nixon's resignation, Reagan being shot, the pope being shot, John Lennon being shot, the Challenger explosion, etc...

This thread is about music. For some of us, there is a band or performer that you fell in love with instantly; and you will never forget where you first heard them.

For me there was one moment like that which stand out above all others. It occurred while I was a student at OSU. I was lying on my fold-out bed in Apt. S at 106 E. 13th avenue; waiting for my girl-friend to get her slow ass out of the bathroom so that I could brush my teeth and get some and get some sleep.

I was watching The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson while I waited. Upon the return from the commercial break, Johnny very briefly introduced "The Jeff Healy Band". I'd never heard of him.

The picture went from Johnny to the stage where a young blind man was sitting on a chair with a guitar on his lap. For those of you who have ever heard his song "See the Light", you know that the INSTANT that song begins you KNOW that this guy can flat out shred.

Less than 20 notes into the song (a very short period of time for almost any Jeff Healey song) I yelled to my girl-friend to get out of the bathroom and see what was happing on "Carson".

I know I "got lucky" that night. But I don't remember the event. I do remember the best part of that evening though... discovering Jeff Healey.
(My girlfriend at the time wasn't all that hot).

Judging from the number of musical threads here; I know that there are those of you who feel strongly enough about a band that you remember the first time you heard them.

I remember the 1st time I heard NWA, I was a freshman in HS, and the older kid who drove me to school put in Straight Outta Compton-I made him go the mall and buy me a copy immediately, along w/ Eazy-E's solo album-this was back when albums 1st had warning stickers, and the record stores actually took them seriously as far as selling to younger kids. Just hearing the 1st couple verses of Fuck Tha Police was an experience for a white kid from Warren County.

About 25 years ago I was taking a shower with a girl when I heard some great guitar riffs from the TV that was on in the other room. I never did find out who was playing that guitar, since the girl (who wasn't really that hot) told me to stay in the bathroom because she had to go see something her boyfriend was yelling about.
