Where To Sell Used Instruments

Just a thought for anyone who has old band or orchestra instruments sitting around feeling lonely... schools love donations of that sort, and can often make use of broken instruments, too, for repair or for parts. I know a lot of low-income families can work with the schools to use instruments during the school year, but not always over the summers. Something that can be lent or given to a hard-working kid is really appreciated.

I should assume it's a strat? Squiers vary in value based on country of origin. Older Mexican models can sell for $300-350, Asian made you won't get more than $100-150 and there are a ton of them on CL and EB. Those are the average prices, assuming very light playing wear with no obvious flaws.

Not too familiar with the amp, but I'd guess you wouldn't get more than $100 for it, based on the retail price. If your Squier is a basic Asian model, I'd bundle it with the amp for $275-300 and expect offers in the $175-250 range, and you should probably take anything over $225. Asian musical gear is actually of good quality these days, but there's too much on the market for items to hold any resale value.

If you post on CL or EB, be sure to take good pics and make it sound like a great deal. Don't state in the add that you'll accept lower offers, that's just dumb.

String Shoppe went out of business about 4 years ago. :(

A bit sad to hear that.

As my final year project for the entrepreneurial marketing course at Fisher College, I helped the founder John Hoppe decide to sell it and negotiate his way through the sale, then wrote a business plan and marketing plan for String Shoppe going forward. The plan focused on dividing the business between neophyte users and professionals and it was very successful. I checked in when they hit the twenty-five year mark and had a nice chat with them. Sorry that it had to come to an end.

I notice that they do have a website still, though. Did they just take it online or are some scammers at work?
