Where do the eggs come from?

I never understood this.

Around Easter the demand for eggs spikes. My economics training tells me that the price should go up as well, but it doesn't. In fact it drops, as though the grocers have a surplus and want us to buy more eggs.

But where do all those eggs come from? Chickens can't work overtime, can they?

Are they saving up eggs for some period of time and selling us old eggs around Easter? They don't seem old.

Are they slipping 'chicken viagra' into the chicken feed?

Are they diverting eggs that would otherwise be hatched to raise chickens? (Is there a corresponding spike in the price of chicken somewhere down the line?)

Are they bringing in migrant chickens?

Anybody know the answer to this one? It is really bothering me.
