What's Wrong & How to Fix It (Merged)

I see what you guys are saying but that is not the case every play...at least I don't think so. Hell, someone with the film can correct me if I'm wrong, but I have seen the team at the line with plenty of time for pre-snap reads and check-outs
:osu: I have seen plenty of time on a good bit of occasions, as well....I was just making a silly remark, to all the "can't-get-the-play-in" stuff

in terms of whether Smith should have checked off more, you may be correct. But I don't see why it's acceptable that we frequently get the playcall in late and put pressure on getting the play off on time. We can count on a couple delay of game penalties and at least one timeout used b/c we have too little time. That's not acceptable to me. Maybe smith could get the play off, but it is problematic that we are putting ourselves in a bad situation every single game.

Does it happen as much as this board and others make it out to be or is this another snowball, follow the sheep thing?

It seems as if something is mentioned as bothersome and next thing you know, it has become a plague to the program. There will always be times when a play gets in late due to personnel changes on either side...however, is it as commonplace as is insinuated or is it another thing people have stuck in their pre-determined minds?

Just asking...not saying either way.

I don't know the percentage breakdown, but this has nothing to do with BP. I was pissed at how often it happened with our perfect QB, Mr. Krenzel. The trend hasn't changed.

Is it better to get the right play... or any play so laong as we have time to snap the ball?

Dude, seriously, you have so many better things to get pissed about... of course... you don't mind blaming the coaches for getting the call in a couple seconds late, but you don't mind jumping someone's ass for suggesting that the players might appears to be not playing as hard as they should (not that I beleive that either)... and have predicted Sanonio Holmes Greatness in the NFL, all in the last 10 minutes... now... you could be right about everything... but why all of the sudden are you Mr. Football Genius this week?

I asked him to clarify which players he thinks are just "going thru the motions", and I explained that Holmes will be 'just fine' as there are plenty of successful WRs that are 6' or less. and we have our share of delay of game penalties, so I don't know if we do 'have time to snap the ball.' Maybe that's troy's fault, I don't know. But if it happened to craig before, and is still happening now, it seems like a trend.

Grad seems to be arguing a good case and I'm just responding with my viewpoint. sorry to have offended you.

edit: I just checked, and OSU's page only has us down for 3 delays of game, with none against PSU. Am I wrong in remembering at least one vs. PSU? I search for the word 'delay' and didn't find it, therefore neither team is recorded as having one in this writeup.

No you asked who was going through the motions... once again... not necessarily something I would agree with... but you have to admit... there might have been a certain lack of fire...

There are also plenty of shitty receivers 6' or less.:wink2:

Dude... I get more irritated with Delay of game than anyone... I don't know the numbers... but if this were an epidemic, I'd be the first to say something...

fair enough, I got rid of the motions post, it was probably a little combative. I'm sticking with the 6' thing, cuz that is one of those overrated measurables. Sure speedy 6'3" wrs are great, but they aren't very common... therefore the lesser 6' types get some chances :)

oh well, I'm off to find some other sheep to follow.

That was not directed at you or anyone in particular...just the climate of the message board community
no I know, my comment was in response to my mini-spanking by akak. I agree with the sentiment. Many have latched onto everything negative and have forgotten anything positive TS, Teddy or even JT have done well this season. (not that they aren't without faults)

I agree folks have legitimate gripes...no argument there, but I wish folks would think things through and offer good discussion points rather than some recycled thought they picked up over the past few seasons

Well mine arent recycled b/c they are usually positive and you don't see too many of them.

But anyways I want to comment on the whole delay of game penalties. When I am seeing them they are not b/c of Smith. Yes the play gets in late sometimes but that happens in the pros to and they get like an 8 minute play clock. Alot of the times it is when the d brings someone up to blitz and Mangold will look around and point guys out and then Smith is waiting and he raises his leg and Mangold isnt looking. I have saw on two or three plays where Smith has moved his leg looking like an idiot b/c the play clock is rolling down.

I don't find it to be a big deal hell even Peyton Manning gets delay of game penalties and he is in and out the huddle very fast.
