It’s that week we all dread, you feel helpless and very unsure about whether the world is right. You’re right…it is the week that the NBA starts their regular season which is just a really long exhibition season. On top of that travesty, our beloved Buckeyes are taking a well-deserved rest as they take on that pesky bye week. Since our football weekend will be spent watching inferior talent, here are some of the match-ups to keep an eye on.

West Virginia at Texas Christian, Thursday, 7:30 pm

TCU comes in riding high with a 7-0 record led by all everything quarterback Trevone Boykin. Boykin has been darn near unstoppable this year throwing for 2,539 yards, rushing for 440 yards, and combining for 30 touchdowns. Sure, their schedule makes Ohio State’s weak schedule look like a murderer’s row but Boykin is exciting to watch and has set himself up to make a serious run at the Heisman. He has three Top-15 opponents in the next four weeks so TCU has to watch out and make sure they are not caught looking ahead.

West Virginia is playing the fourth game in a brutal stretch where they play four straight Top-15 teams. Not surprisingly they have lost the first three but they had a bye week to prepare for TCU who has struggled mightily on defense. This is going to be a shoot-out and I’m just not too sure WVU has the weapons to keep up.

Prediction: 65-35, TCU

Oregon at Arizona State, Thursday, 10:30 pm

This game has been circled since the pre-season. Both teams came into the year with National Championship aspirations. Oregon was ranked #5 and eight months removed from playing in the championship game. Sparky came in at #15 and had numerous play-makers returning on offense and defense including all everything WR/RB D.J. Foster. This game was supposed to be a major player in the PAC-12 race but then the season started.

Both of these teams come into this game with a disappointing 4-3 record and coming off of a bye week. If you are a fan of patterns, Arizona State is destined to win this game:

ASU Oregon

Week 1: Loss Win

Week 2: Win Loss

Week 3: Win Win

Week 4: Loss Loss

Week 5: Win Win

Week 6: Win Loss

Week 7: Loss Win

Week 8: ??? ???

I mean, who can argue with science? Not this guy! (Let me know if you need help with the patterns)

Prediction: 35-31, ASU

Florida at Georgia, Saturday, 3:30 pm

Georgia seems to have all the talent in the world but they just cannot consistently put a solid game together. They are coming off of their bye week where they needed to regroup after their exhilarating 9-6 win vs Missouri. Georgia is going to try to run the ball down your throat even with them losing star Nick Chubb a few weeks ago. Sony Michel is a very capable back who hopes to do some damage vs Florida.

Florida, on the other hand, just seems to get it done no matter how much controversy or injuries their team encounters. Florida has a legit defense but I’m not sure their offense is good enough to keep up with the big boys around the nation. Florida needs this win to almost guarantee them a spot in the SEC championship game. Their schedule is very favorable looking forward as they miss out on a match-up with Alabama this year.

Prediction: 20-17, Georgia

Houston at Vanderbilt, Saturday, 7 pm

Our very own Buckeyes are not playing this week so why not support one of the many people responsible for bringing a championship to Columbus, Tom Herman and his Houston Cougars. Herman has made remarkable gains in his first year as head coach. He has Houston sitting at 7-0 and ranked in the Top-20. Even more remarkable, he has Houston as a 12-point and 96% favorite over an SEC school which is really an NFL-caliber conference. Herman has found himself a Braxton Miller clone to lead his offense in Houston, Greg Ward. This very talented quarterback has 1733 passing yards and 677 rushing yards on the season.

Vanderbilt comes into this game with three wins on the year against Austin Peay, Middle Tennessee State, and Missouri. In order to win this game, Vanderbilt is going to have to rely on their defense and focus on stopping Ward.

Prediction: 24-17, Houston

Notre Dame at Temple, Saturday, 8 pm

Now for the game of the week…just think about that for a second, Temple is playing in the game of the week. It has been a strange season in regards to Temple for college football fans. They came out in Week 1 and beat Penn State 27-10 while racking up 10 sacks. We all laughed at the fact that PSU actually lost to Temple. Fast-forward 8 games later and the Owls are sitting at 7-0 and ranked 21st in the nation. Are they good? Nobody knows because not many people go out of their way to watch Temple play sports. You do have to give them credit for beating PSU, Cincy and East Carolina but are they going to keep up with Notre Dame?

Notre Dame also comes into this game with many questions. They have been absolutely decimated by injuries but seem to keep chugging along, outside of a two point loss to Clemson. They are not blowing teams out but they win and that is all that matters. Coming off of a bye week and big win vs Southern California, Notre Dame should like their chances and roll.

Prediction: 42-20, Notre Dame
