What would Tressel say???

This is a hypothetical post. That said, to anyone out there who has coached, or is a coach, or who wishes to respond in a non-hostile manner-What would/should Jim Tressel say to his defense who have bled their hearts out for OSU during the Texas/PSU games, and seen their efforts come for naught?
Should he say
A-We are a team. It doesn't matter what the offense does-we are all equally responsible for the outcome.

B-I have failed you as an offensive coordinator. You have done your best, and I have failed in mine.

C-You should have only given up 7 points, regardless of the situation you were placed in. You failed.

D-OSU as a program is bigger than any 05' team. Your efforts will be gloriously remembered as we do better in the future.
 
I will add another option.

You played one helluva a game. The game plan was perfect but not executed. Had we not turned the ball over in our own Red Zone and had we not missed a FG we would have won 13-10 as expected.

It sucks but that's what I think he is thinking/saying.

I don't think they usually hand out GPA's for complaining about the offense with one sentence. I don't disagree necessarily with his viewpoint, but the criteria is usually a little different.

Yes, it's just like him to pin the blame on others and not take it himself:shake:

F - We got beat by a tough team today. We made some bad calls, had some trouble executing, and lost a tough game. You guys fought hard, and I commend you for that.

He's going to say something very close to "A" - and once again no buckeye leaves for anyone on defense.

I would ask anyone on special teams or offense "How many of you can honestly say that you wanted this game more than Penn State's defensive and special teams players?"

It seems like JT has perfected the art of how to play teams that might be better/more talented than you.
he doesn't seem to be able to adjust to having the better/more talented team.

That sounds like what I think he should say. The "A" option isn't bad, either.

Definitely he should not say anything to divide the team against itself, or to get the to second-guess himself, or the coaches. I don't like "B."

I don't like "C" either. That whole "you failed" part seems like the wrong thing to say to a team that already feels bad.

And I don't really understand what you're going for in "D".

"F"...plus...."We have 6 games left on the schedule...I have full confidence in you that we can will all of them, but each and every person needs to take Sunday and think about how you can make yourself and your team better. That goes for people who start, to coaches, all the way down to those who run the scout team. Every day, every practice, you goal needs to be making yourselves better as individuals, and thus our team better collectively. Then, when we run into this type of tough situation again, we will all be better, and we will then be victorious. That's how we grow as players, and that's how we grow as men. We're all in this together."

I would say a. Then Iwould challenge the D to do more...don't be satisfied with what you did Saturday..did you turn PSU over?, NW did Minn did.You have the opp. to be the one of the best defenses ever don't let things out of your control have a neg. effect on you.

Last Saturday, Northwestern beat Wisconsin 51 to 48 - certainly not "Tresselball", as all must agree. I'm sure that we could analyze that game and find "one big play" that "lost" the game for Wisconsin.

Concerning the original question, my answer would be "F plus plus". I'm sure that JT will also remind the defense and special teams that they didn't come up with that "one big play" (fumble recovery, interception, blocked kick, long return) that could have helped the Bucks to victory. So, maybe "A" is the correct answer after all - you win as a team and you lose as a team.
