What Will Be the Storyline of The NC Game?

CookyPuss

Screw Blue
I'm not talking about the game itself here. I'm talking about the story that the media will glob onto going into the game. Right now it is focused on the controversy of scUM getting snubbed, but that will eventually fade. Last year it was the 3Pete and 2002 was all about how tOSU didn't belond on the field with scUM South. What do you think will be the media focus this year? They have 35 days to yack about this game, so I'm sure some topic will rise to the top.

Southern speed vs. Northern power?
OSU wire-to-wire?
OSU offense against UF defense?
Big 10 vs. SEC?
OSU goes for 2nd Championship in 5 years?

I'm sure there are some other ones, but I thought of those right off hand...

I'm sure there will be plenty of talk about how amazing the SEC is and how florida had brutal games week after week which is why they lost a close game on the road at night.
We'll also hear more about how our schedule was garbage.

I'm already sick of hearing how Michigan is definitely better than Florida and got hosed.

I'd say a combination of B, C, and D. Everyone has been talking about the SEC's power this year and how they are supposed to be light years ahead of everyone else in college football right now, but in fact its the Big Ten that has 2 of the top 3 teams in the nation and 3 of the top 5/7 (depending which polls you look at), depsite also having the wire-to-wire #1 team which is going for its 2nd national championship in 5 years.

I'm also very interested to see what FOX will be able to come up with as their subplot during the game. So far we've got:

2002/03: OSU doesn't belong here/bad call, Keith, bad call
2003/04: Ell Roberson not being suspended
2004/05: Troy Smith's suspension/Clarett's ESPiN article
2005/06: Brady Quinn's sister is dating AJ Hawk

What will those crazy Murdochians concoct for the 2006/07 game?

Whatever it is, I'll pay as little attention to it as possible. Hype pisses me off.
Haha as will I.

I'm getting the feel that the media hype will be about how UF is much better than the may have appeared to be during the regular season. I think there will be a lot of that to justify why they got in over scUM. I think that is a much better line than everyone annointing tOSU the champ right now and giving them big fat heads going into the game (not that I think Tress and Smith will let that happen).

I tend to agree with MuckFich, I think Florida is going to get a lot of hype for playing in the SEC, which is the strongest conference in the NFL.

I have heard much discussion about comparisons to the 2002 tOSU/Miami game with the roles reversed for us, but I think by the time the game rolls around it will be very evenly matched teams and Florida is more game tested because of the SEC.

I was the first to say it was going to be Fla because of the networks losing money if a replay happened.
So here is the story line; The gators and the SEC will become the team and conference of the year and this will be drilled into us and the airwaves until they have squeezed the largest possible audience out of the world. And the last possible penny out of your pocket.
It doesnt matter if Fla is the 2nd best team or not. It doesn't matter if they happen to win or not. The media will make it seem that Fla. is almost ,or equal ,or better than the Buckeyes.
The only thing that matters is how much money the media can make.

I'm not convinced. I think the talking heads are going to hype us like they did Miami in 2002 and USC last year.

There will be a few SEC homers hammering out Florida's praises to justify their presence in Glendale. Outside of that, it will be all OSU, all the time.

idk about the media, but two I will be interested in are these:

1) We play Florida in basketball on Dec. 23 as two of the highest ranked teams in basketball, before we play in January as the two highest ranked football teams. How cool is that?

2) It will be fun to see who will have gotten closer to beating OSU this year: Zook, or Meyer. I have a feeling its going to be Zook.

Well.... after Troy Smith wins the Heisman everyone is probably going to be making this a big "David vs. Goliath" type game. I wouldn't buy that and neither will the inbred SEC hillbillies.

Yeah I remember that. So far on espn they have been talking up Fla's speed so far. Herbie even gives them the speed edge.

I don't think it will go that way because those teams were undefeated coming off championship seasons. They appeared to be invincible. Although tOSU has been hyped as the clear #1 all year, I think the media sees it more as the other teams having down seasons than tOSU being the greatest show on turf. I think it will be easier for them to sell this as the battle of the best team vs. the team that won the toughest conference or its time to find out if tOSU is as great as everyone thinks. You'll start to hear things like the Texas and Iowa wins seemed big at the time, but we know what happend to those teams and that tOSU squeaked by scUM at home.

Next week there will be a lot about the unstoppable OSU offense as Troy takes his Heismann, but after that I think you will see a shift to how these teams are really pretty even. Not that I really give a crap what the media thinks, I just think its funny how easy they can be to predict sometimes.
