Let's see here;
Mondays: discover things like alarm clocks and Pre-dawn darkness, hangover, office coffee, head on collision with work, how do they manage to stretch ten hours into something that feels like eternity... nope.
Tuesday: alarm clock has got to go and take daylight savings time with it, bang toe on furniture due to pre-dawn darkness, hangover replaced by sleep deprivation from watching MNF... and it was a boring game too... , office coffee, flood of memos from boss... naw
Wednesday: memo: take hammer to bed, smash shit out of alarm clock, step in fur ball left by cat directly outside door to bathroom that can't be seen in pre-dawn darkness, office coffee, meetings, over the hump day. Watch MAC game of the week on ESPN. Definite Maybe, sure as shit beats Monday.
Thursday: Ponder life without alarm clock, accidentally step on dog who's been scurrying around feet, begging for food and a chance to go outside. Dog yelps, sets off high level guilt feelings I never knew existed within me, office coffee, tell co-workers about dog, still feel guilty, five minutes before "go home" time get into phone call with client... one of those just-like-a-booger-on-finger,-you-can't-shake-it-off phone calls. Leave office one and a half hours later. Still, the weekend is in sight, watch Big East game of the Week on ESPN, close but no cigar.
Friday: Ponder slow death of alarm clock, walk into closet door in pre-dawn darkness, dog can't find right place to do business, light rain, scream at dog, "just find a spot and do it NOW!" dog sniffs another spot, nope, not right one, consider selling dog. Remember scarlet and gray tie while dressing, office coffee, join buddies at lunch, do Mexican, office pool, phone ringing five minutes before go home time, duck into bathroom with "Montezuma's Lunchtime Revenge" look on face, buddy takes phone call and is still at his desk as I take off for weekend on time. Take kids to local high school game. Certainly under consideration.
Saturday: alarm clock goes off, Jump up and hit shower, who cares about pre-dawn darkness? I've got tickets to the game! Let the dog out, start pot of coffee, put TBDBITL on stereo and crank, blue jeans, running shoes, scarlet and gray rugby shirt, locate tickets, pile into car, pick up Gabe, put cooler in trunk, stop at Deli, dark rye, Swiss cheese, salami, baked ham, horseradish mustard, slip TBDBITL into car's CD, crank, hit I-75 north, note stream of cars with OSU flags, decals, license plate holders, wave, how the hell did we not beat the rush? give up on Lane Avenue exit and go north to Ackerman, dodge through backstreets, get parking spot, open Spaten, grab sandwich, walk to St. John, catch few minutes of TBDBITL, stroll down to Hiney gate... what if they had real beer here? Ponder how many of these kids will need hearing aids and tattoo removal by age forty, girls could NOT have been that hot when we were in school, contemplate being 20 again with what I know now and more money, remember thinking that girls really flipped when I replaced standard light bulb with blue one in apartment make out room, have another damn-near-water-Coors and head for stadium, contemplate all the great games/times in the 'shoe. Retell story of C-deck buddies catching a pigeon and setting it free in B-deck during 3rd quarter of crucial game, slightly exaggerate the amount of confusion, terror and pigeon shit, get in seat, watch warm up, go pee, get back just in time to see drummers come down ramp, cheer like crazy during Script Ohio, get choked up singing Carmen Ohio, watch Bucks, live and die each second, leave stadium wound up, begin to second guess coach even though Bucks won, hit Hiney gate again, I am so SURE girls were not this HOT when I was in school. See flasher on screen and remember time at a party when girl puked on self and ripped off top of black evening gown to the delight of everyone standing in hotel lobby, slightly exaggerate size of breasts involved, climb in car, listen to jackass named Monk(?) on 1410 as he swears repeatedly, ad nauseum, that he bleeds nothing but scarlet and gray, but just can't figure out why Tressel didn't blow the game wide open in the first quarter, catch other scores, have to hit both rest stops on the way home, exchange college war stories with Gabe on the way home, exaggerate slightly. Dog stays up with me to watch west coast scores come in. Is there a question as to which day is the best? Well, we still need to consider Sunday.
Sunday: no alarm clock, but dog insists on going out in pre-dawn darkness. Pick up newspaper. Re-read story on Buck's win twice, re-read story of Notre Dame loss three times, go to church, get back in time to catch pre-game show. Damn Marvin Lewis has me caring about the Bengals, but I grew up with the Browns...Groza, Lavellie, Otto Graham, MacSpeedie, Willis, Marion Motley, Chuck Knoll the messenger guard bringing in the play from the sidelines... decide I like Sunday football, but I really care about what happens on Saturday. Second game ends and I feel Monday creeping up on me... this is good, but it's definitely not Saturday...
