We have a Brita filter at the house, I try to avoid bottled water unless I am someplace like Mexico. It's just too damned expensive, I am not paying a buck for a glass of water.

Our kegarator is another option too. Beer has water in it........

Unless you are buying a mineral water such as Gerolsteiner, who can tell any difference?

NYC tap water has been shown in numerous taste tests to surpass bottled waters in "flavor" (or lack thereof). I myself put a GAC filter in my fridge to yield chloroform-free, taste-free H2O, which I then put into old Gatorade bottles (I like the wide-mouth opening when rehydrating during exercise).

Bottled water (other than the mineral variety, which most folks do not like) is a sucker's game. You might as well buy bottled air.

When we buy a bottle of water, what we're often buying is the bottle itself, as much as the water. We're buying the convenience: A bottle at a 7-Eleven store isn't the same product as tap water, any more than a cup of coffee at Starbucks is the same as a cup of coffee from the Krups machine on your kitchen counter. And we're buying the artful story the water companies tell us about the water: where it comes from, how healthy it is, what it says about us. Surely, among the choices we can make, bottled water isn't just good -- it's positively virtuous.Except for this: Bottled water is often simply an indulgence, and despite the stories we tell ourselves, it is not a benign indulgence. About 1 billion bottles of water a week are moved around in ships, trains and trucks in the United States alone. That's a weekly convoy equivalent to 37,800 18-wheelers delivering water. (Water weighs 8 1/3 pounds a gallon. It's so heavy you can't fill an 18-wheeler with bottled water -- you have to leave empty space.)

I pack frozen bottled water in my lunch everyday, it keeps my food cold. I would just put it in the fridge but there is constant thievery from the fridge. I buy Deja, because the bottle is thicker plastic and doesn't bulge as much or break when it is frozen. Yes, it is only water, but it's sterile and I like the taste.

Following pressure from activists, Pepsico disclosed last week that its Aquafina bottled water comes from the same source as tap water.

Here, Aquafina has expanded its operations at the site of a former General Motors auto plant in north St. Louis. Aquafina says it buys water here from the city's water treatment plant.

So the water in a 20-ounce bottle of Aquafina that sells for $1.25 comes from the Missouri River.

St. Louis officials calculate that residents can buy about 10 gallons of city water for 1.5 cents.

Fiji and then Dasani.

When I was in Chicago this summer, I drank another fancy brand....in a glass bottle that screwed from the top with a wider plastic 'lid'. It came con gas and no gas. Anway....it was free (at the Park Hyatt) and tasted pretty good.
