What is the best Buckeye gift you ever received? (MERGED)

scarletngrey11

All right, all right, all right.
for my 16th birthday, i got the following

ohio state headcovers for my drivers & woods

nice white ohio state hat

scarlet track & football bag

and a scarlet #7 jersey.

I am so pumped up for the season i cant wait, i feel like that jersey is my most prized possession and that its the greatest gift i couldve gotten. its my first ohio state jersey even though ive loved the bucks for years.

whats the best buckeye gift you've ever gotten? is there a story behind it or anything?

heck maybe in a year or two my name will be in the recruiting database, i find that far fetched though...

back when clarett was a good person (which was for like 4 days), i received a BUckeyes no. 13 jersey and I still wear it when I watch games cuz its the only buckeyes jersey i have i just wear it cuz of the beautiful team/jersey and amazing scarlet and gray colors. Luckily, the back name of the jersey says BUCKEYES.

GO BUCKS! 13 days!!!!!!!!!!!

I was visiting Ohio State and an old friend from Glicks Furniture named Rick Runyon gave me his 50 yard line seats to the OSU Minnesota game in 1987 or 1988 in the Shoe. My Dad was disabled but made it into his seat and I had the foresight to buy some ponchos just in case it rained.

Dad knew it would be his last chance to see a game in the 'Shoe even though he lived another 15 years. Despite being in pain the entire game, he refused to leave and we tucked our ponchos around us and watched the game in a downpour.

I don't remember the year or the score. It was a blowout, I think 49-6. We put big points on the board and the game was decided before the rain started falling.

Nearly twenty years later, I clearly remember the look on his face. The look in his eyes and the smile from ear to ear. The poncho's now brittle and torn but it still hangs in my garage.

For a moment there, I was once again little and his hands and arms were so strong. Then, I noticed how much bigger my arms were than his and that a torch had been passed from generation to generation. We sat there father and son, brother and brother and savoured every second.

It took us an hour to walk back to the car after the game was over and he was in bed for a week. But, he just kept saying how much it was all worth it and he often reminded me of it. I suppose that and a game watching Gary Bradds score in the high forties would have been our two best Buckeye live moments.

I don't even know where Rick is now, but I remember his kindness often and say a little prayer of thanksgiving for the day I shared with my Dad because of his gift of kindness. It was the best Buckeye gift I ever received.

If I'm remembering properly, Carlos Snow scored 4-5 touchdowns. I might be off a year or two, though.

My favorite OSU gift wasn't really a gift, since I made it myself. Just after OSU won the 2002 championship, I gathered all of the magazines I could find with OSU pictures on the cover or inside, and scanned them. I trimmed and shrunk the pictures down (using some fancy graphic design software my wife uses) to about 2" x 2", and pasted them on a black background, making a kick-ass poster of probably 35-40 pictures of the Ohio State season.

when I was 16 I met this little kid who was a heck of a football player and would later go on to star at Ohio State - by the name of Chic Harley. :wink2:

OK, I'm not really that old, but thinking of someone just turning 16 makes me feel like it!

My best OSU gifts were the games I got to go to with my dad and watch Archie Griffin play. I can't wait to start taking my boys.

Hard to say, would be either of The Game wins I attended with my dad. I had only seen OSU live vs. MSU in 98 (vomit) with him.

2001 - Place was silent for the entire first half... our section was rather quiet other than us two (he's a spartan, and roots for OSU too)... Had wells not hurt himself that would have been a bigger blowout than this year IMO

2004 - NTD got some great tickets to us (corner endzone but only 40 rows up). Never been there for The Game, and it was unbelievable. It was resolution for so many of us, especially b/c my gal had taken me to the Wisky game earlier that year :(
