What impact will the 2006 Fiesta Bowl have on recruiting?

I dont know if somebody started this thread and merge it if there is another similar one.

Im still wondering how much this game will help tOSU recruiting? I wonder how much this weill change the minds of HS seniors on the fence about where to go. ND does appear to have a very stong recruiting class and i wonder if this will help tOSU in the battle for Ohio's best.

there seemed to be a lot of battles brewing with ND for 07 players. I don't know how much this will help in 06, but it is priceless in terms of establishing who the true king of the midwest is.

Even in '08 and '09... those kids have even less of an idea where they would go... and it makes a deep impact.

Of course, If I were a DB who could run and only wanted early PT, I know Where I'd go.

Funny, I count 6 starters out of those 15 players. Maybe you're looking at the wrong depth chart.

thinking back to the incredible 02 class, Tressel didn't have that great of a year in 01, but had a huge win over Michigan. Seeing as Michigan has been put in their place, ND was the biggest threat for recruits in the future IMO.

It seems like 03 should have been better given the NC, however it doesn't help that the #2, 4, 6, 8 and possibly 10 didn't have their head on straight. That class would be a lot better if they turned out better...

Who knows what the impact of this game will have on recruiting? I thought that the 2002 Fiesta Bowl win would really help recruiting that year; however, (in my opinion) the 2003 class was just average. With only a month between bowl games and signing day, a bowl win (even a NC) can only have so much impact that late in the game. But IMO that 2003 class was only subpar in its overall numbers with 15 total recruits. The next class was rated #11 by the same service you quoted, with 4 top-100s and 9 OOS guys who are still on the team. The 2005 class is already well on its way to being a great one, but this Fiesta win will help more in 2006 and beyond.

Ummm... the bowl game in a given year has very little to do with the class coming in just a few weeks later.... Hmmm... why? because everyone has already committed.

Its about depth and prolinged success. The dividends are hardly ever cut and dry. Notre Dame benefits merely by being in the game (as do we) but the question is whether some 08 or '09 kid from Chicago (or wherever) chooses Ohio State over ND... or Michigan or whoever... from watching this year's bowls. You dont ever know when its going to happen... but it does... because if it didn't... 5 star kids would go to Toledo just because they live nearer to there than Ohio State, ND, or Michigan.

Anyway... you might swing a tweener here or there... but one bowl win and a month does not a class make.

Re: exhawg, "Funny, I count 6 starters out of those 15 players. Maybe you're looking at the wrong depth chart."

Besides Whitner, Patterson, Gonzalez, and Youboty who are the other two starters?

I didn't count Irizarry or Guilford. They (potentially) would have been two more starters. I guess Frost did start some games this year and I believe Boeckman could easily be the starting QB in 2007.

fair enough, I didn't follow recruiting back then to know who was holding out until signing day... tho either way your point is valid.

Right... I don't specifically remember who the holdouts were either.. well.. one or two come to mind, but its not like 9 kids who were deciding between LSU and Georgia (or whoever) all the sudden said, "Hey, lets go be Buckeyes!"

The key is success over time and building a bigger pool of guys interested in you... that we can do it over an emerging recruiting rival (regionally) is a big plus, I think, though.
