depending on your age and ability, the shafts are key. The new technology is pushing the 'sweet spot' of the driver/woods higher than the middle. That's why the lofts are getting bigger. More loft on the new technology, the straighter. If you're above a 10-11 handicap, you might be better served towith a regular shaft with a higher kick point.
I used a Taylor 425 (didn't like the 460 aspect) 8.5 with a stiff, and just changed the shaft to a regular, and hit it farther and straighter (go figure). As far as the hybrids, they are much easier to hit higher (and stop quicker) than the long irons. I've replaced my 3/4/5 irons with two Cobra hybrids (20 and 23 degrees), and choke down or at the knob depending on distance required. Straighter and having to repair more ball marks on the greens as well.
Most private clubs have same heads with a variety of shafts that will allow you to see what works best for you. If you don't belong, but know a member, see when the Cobra/Taylor/Ping/Titleist demo days are, then show up. The pros will work with you to get the best combination of loft, flex, and kick point for your game. Be prepared to buy, though......
Good luck. PS, a tip from someone who's 'been there-done that', do NOT do more than sip a drink with your boss. If he/she gets slooshed, so be it. Your career can and WILL be on the line if you get out of line. Make one beer, or white wine last the entire way. "Look at the new guy, he can't hold his liquor, how can he keep secrets?" or somesuch.
Oh well, I'm too soon old, too late wise, and hope to keep someone else from making the same mistakes.
