What drives/motivates you?

CCI

Metal Rules
In all seriousness here alittle feedback:
In life we are encountered with many a moments that can really seem either impossible or incredibly tough. But for the most of us we find a reason, or a person or whatever to push us on and get over that moment and come out stronger than we were before we encountered it. So my question to you is...what drives/motivates you to push on in life even when times are tougher than you'd like them to be?

So to answer my own question...my faith motivates me and if it don't kill me it only makes me stronger. Also I get motivated for the Fall and the start of Buckeye season.

CCI- Are you going through some life-changing experience or something? This and the "what do you take for granted" thread are pretty deep self-reflective thoughts. :wink2: j/k

Seriously though, I guess I'm motivated now by doing the best I can for myself and my family. There are personal things that motivate me, like seeking a challenge in my work or reaching certian career goals, but I think ultimately it's to be in a position that allows my family to live a good life.

And looking forward to Buckeye football season is a given....

The knowledge of doing what is right in the sight of God and acts of self-preservation. Regarding self: that has become an outgrowth of the younger concept of self ("myself") to the present version of family ("me, my wife, my kids"). I think one of the greater goods in this world is family, which is an anchor for many souls. Without the dependence of others on you, the drive for good and perserverance might very well vanish. So, I guess you could say that another reason to "push on and get over that moment" is the big R: Responsibility.

What motivates me?

Failure, the ecstasy of victory, the dull throb of losing, young minds, housing projects, 80% free and reduced lunches, illiterate parents, teenage drug usage and pregnancy rates, hope, respect, scholarship offers, and knowing I can change the course of at least one kids' life everyday.

Other than that....not much.

Not to get into a boo hoo my life was so hard rant, but it was. In order to attain my dreams (which I recently have) I had to make some huge sacrifices and overcome a few serious obstacles. However, the sacrifices my wife and daughter made on my behalf far outway my own. It is now their turn to live their dreams. I want my wife and child, soon to be children, to be able to have their hearts deepest desire. I want my children to be able to go to whatever college they choose, except any Florida or California schools, and of course Notre Dumb. I want my family to live out the rest of their lives knowing that they are the apple of my eyes, that I would stop at nothing to do right by them.

edit: My children are also forbidden from scUM and any SEC schools except Vanderbuilt.

All these responses are inspirational and heart-warming, but...let's be honest, folks... the correct answer to the question is money.

I don't really know how to explain it much more than, just go do it. I remember back in football 2-a-days when i was drop-dead exhausted or when i was running in my first 10k race, or when i was up to my eyeballs in work and stress from school or life. But in all of those situations when i wanted to really just quit and say "screw it", i just didn't think about it, and just did it. I know it all sounds corny but im just too stubborn to quit and too ashamed to feel weak for not finishing something that I definitely could have done.
