It’s getting real, folks.
No more non-conference pansies. B1G play begins for the Buckeyes. The stakes are higher. The magnifying glass is getting bigger.
Fortunately the OSU offense is getting better.
As Ohio State preps for its first conference game, at Indiana Saturday, here’s what tBBC staffers are looking to see.
Scott
A win: No losing here.
Get him going early and often.
Off and running: Get Zeke going. Please.
No short balls: OSU will take some chances deep. Let’s see if Cardale Jones can remember to throw it far and let his wide receivers run under the balls.
No false starts: I’m starting to sound like Mali.
Mali Buckeye
No. False. Starts: Line or “skill positions,” just go when you’re supposed to. Nothing gets a team off schedule faster than a preventable penalty. Plus, they’re stupid. And make me angry. So knock it off.
Focus: While people may not remember it, Indiana has challenged Ohio State in the last three games. There was the squeaker in Columbus three years ago, the almost meltdown in Bloomington, and then Jalin Marshall had to single-handedly save the game. Seriously, they’re Hoosiers … but they’re also undefeated and would love nothing more than derailing Ohio State’s hopes.

Getting stretchy: Ohio State’s still looking for an offensive deep threat … This is the week (I hope).
INTD: Are we going to let Lee and Washington have all the fun? Let’s get a DB on the “Zone 6″ board.
Heisman campaign continues: Bryce Haynes continues to be spectacular … just needs a signature play to hang his helmet on. Of course, if I’m honest, I’d prefer to not have him see the field at all … but hey.
Joe
Stop the run: Everyone thinks that Indiana is just a spread team, but Jordan Howard has brought the program a power run game after transferring from UAB. Howard has 675 yards on the ground and is averaging 27 carries per game. Ohio State has yet to give up a run of 20 yards or longer. What kept Indiana in this matchup last year was the big play runs of Tevin Coleman. Howard isn’t the same back, but OSU has to keep him in check. The positive? Since 2012, Ohio State’s defense has given up the second fewest rushing yards in the FBS in road games at 110.3 ypg.
Throw the rock: This Indiana secondary has struggled throughout Kevin Wilson’s tenure. This year, in three games at home, the Hoosiers have given up over 390 yards per game in the air. Cardale Jones has to do a better job of finding his receivers in stride.
Get Curtis Samuel involved: The hybrid star was second on the team in all-purpose yards last week. That was with limited touches. I don’t care how the coaching staff gets him more involved on Saturday, but the Bronx Big Play M+achine needs more touches.
Return of the Jalin: I see you Indiana defense and special teams and I raise you the guy that scored four touchdowns on you in a single half of football. #ReturnOfTheJalin
Keep the streaks alive: Ohio State has the nation’s longest road winning streak at 14. The Bucks have won 24 straight conference games and own the Indiana series with 19 straight wins against them.
Patrick
A sense of urgency on offense: It’s time to stop playing around and go out and put up the numbers we know this offense can put up.
Passing efficiency: Way to many issues with the passing game. Too many over throws, Cardale waiting too long in the pocket, and WRs not running routes to the sticks. Need every possession to be productive on Saturday.
Silver Bullets: we know Indiana can score at will and we’ll need the defense to put up one of its best games to date.
Charles
Consistent quarterback play: Cardale Jones was better last week but did not look very good in the second half
Stop the run with the front seven: Jordan Howard is a very good running back but the Hoosiers can also air it out, OSU needs to stop the run without cheating up and opening things up for the passing game.
Hang on to the ball: Turnovers are still an issue for this team and against an explosive offense like Indiana, they could be very costly.
Ken
A win: OSU needs to keep chugging along with their winning streak(s).
No injuries: No explanation needed.
Zeke gets 25-30 carries: The more he works, the better the offense is. Plus, it keeps IU’s offense off the field.
A new face: Someone besides/in addition to Michael Thomas catch a TD pass.
WVa Buckeye
The Marshall plan: It worked to perfection last year and this game should be no different.
The Zeeeeeeeeke punch: Rough them up with the power runnning and don’t look back.
The slobs need to eat: Make sure the line takes no prisoners. Leave no doubt about who has the best O-line in the B1G.
