What did you get the kids of the family for gifts?

Oh... and Nasty's point about younger kids swallowing magnets is a good one. In my case, the two-year-old belongs to a different brother than the four-year-old, but it's probably not a good idea to have these in a home with small children.

Magnetix actually had a pretty big recall on some of their products last spring because some kid died after swallowing some magnets. Apparently, the magnets can easily fall out. I don't know if they've changed the design since then or not. But... I also think the child that died was below the appropriate age for the toy, so as long as the kids are old enough, it shouldn't be a problem.

Our 6 year old received several sets of the Magnetix from Santa Clause last year. The little magnets that are inside the plastic pieces started falling out a few months back. Needless to say, he no longer plays with them.

You've been watching too many bad Tim Allen movies this week. There's no 'e' in Santa Claus. :tongue2:

I was over at a neighbors house over the weekend for a Christmas party, and he broke out his Mattel Intellivision circa 1983. There were probably 6 guys down there for a good 2 hours playing old Intellivision games like football and baseball. I completely forgot about how cool Intellivision was.

the kids (and wives) all thought it was stupid.

Magnets are great for kids to decorate their parents' computer. :p

Ditto on the books, BuckyKatt. Some members of my family have decided that they don't have to read to their kids because they do that at daycare. :roll1: (they're so fucking lazy)

Webkinz?

Didn't see the point in starting a new thread on kiddie toys... But I have a question for the parents out there.

What's the deal with Webkinz? A couple coworkers said their kids love them, and I actually think they might be kind of fun (I think I want one), but I'm not sure how I'd view them from a parental standpoint.

Are they still cool, or are they past their prime? What are the fun aunts buying for kids these days? Birthday party for the eight year old niece this weekend...

Any input would be appreciated!
