What Clubs\Organizations Do You Belong To?

  • I am interested in joining a Club or Organization that I can do some volunteering and networking through. I am thinking about something like Kiwanis or Rotary.

Any thoughts on good organizations and\or clubs to join?

Rotary is great. But make sure you get a handle on what the club is all about before joining.

Example: Columbus Downtown Rotary is mostly a check-writing club, while groups like Westerville Sunrise are all about boots-on-the-ground, serious active volunteering.

Kiwanis may be a better place to make friends, Rotary may be better for relatively serious business people. I'm a Rotarian; my dad was a Kiwanian. Both of us very happy with our choices. Good luck, and good for you that you want to volunteer. :highfive:

:shake: @ Most Worshipful Brother AKAK...

The Masons are a fine organization. 32nd degree and a fez wearing Shriner here. You hear about the Shriners being a lot of parties but the hospitals and on the ground volunteering (eg roadrunners drive kids and families 1000s of miles each year to be taken care of in the Shriners Hospitals) is one of the biggest and best parts of the Shrine.

Gotta be a Mason to be a Shriner... But worth it.

And besides, you will get to know the truth behind all the Disovery / History channel tinfoil hat shows.

If you can't do the Masons, look into the Skulls. They sound like a fun group of guys.

This may sound stupid, but if you are in an urban area and are weary of joining an official club, try reddit. People organize and do a lot of good. Some of it is silly, like when a guy needed a last minute garment bag for a business trip that I lent him, but some of it is very strong.

I never tried anything else, well Mensa if that counts, but they were all idiots.

FWIW, the Elks lodge in the Fort has a pretty nice bar.

    :p

What kind of networking do you want to do? That may have a bearing as well.

Thanks all for your help and advice.

I am looking to network with local business and community leaders. I would also like to do some mentoring.
