Didn't this game get scheduled somewhat at the last minute because somebody else backed out of the date?

Yeah, I think so. But for what we’re paying to come into the 43210 to take an ass beating (roughly $2M?), I’m willing to bet that one of the other Ohio MAC-TION schools not Akron would have broken their date for the weekend to dance with us.

I’d much rather have that $2M stay in the state. That $2M is a real difference maker for those programs… and well… I don’t give a damn for the WHOLE state of Michigan… so fuck ‘em.

Five Things to Know About Western Michigan As Ohio State Keeps Tuning Up Early in 2024 Campaign

148757_h.jpg

The second of Ohio State’s three tune-up Group of Five games arrives in Week 2, one from the same MAC conference as its Week 1 opponent.

Western Michigan comes to the Shoe hoping for a more complete performance than Arkon had in Columbus, as the Zips hung with the Buckeyes in the first half to enter halftime down just 17-3 but a second-half tsunami swept up a 52-6 win for Ohio State. OSU, for its part, will be looking for another blowout that sees it improve some of its inefficiencies, particularly those that appeared on offense in the first 30 minutes.

On paper, the Broncos should provide a slightly stiffer test than the Zips, going 4-8 last season and recording a Week 1 result that indicates WMU can challenge Power Conference teams. Western Michigan had a similar caliber of defense but a better offense, statistically, than Arkron a year ago.

Just sayin': Unlike how the game stated against Akron, Ohio State needs to start this game "ready to play". There is a consensus among college coaches that the most improvement is between the 1st and 2nd game. I'm looking for a much improved Ohio State team this Saturday.....:boogie:

"Similar caliber of defense"

I might beg to differ with that guy's definition of "similar"

Akron allowed 5.18 yards per play last year. The Broncos allowed 6.11

That is a huge difference. Akron's number was good enough for 31st nationally. Western Michigan earned a ranking of 106.

Thirty First is not "similar" to One Hundred Sixth by any useful definition of the word.

By contrast, the writer called WMU's offense "better", not "similar".

The WMU offense was ranked 112th vs Akron's ranking of 131 last year. That's a heck of a lot closer to "similar" than the defensive difference, yet the writer seemed to think the opposite. How he came to that conclusion is anyone's guess.

So you’re saying we have a chance in this one?
