West Virginia/JUCO/C.W. Post/Kean RB Jason Gwaltney (official thread)

My intial thought was son of a #$!@%, After I got by that thought I realized that I'm glad it just wasn't USC. We'll be just fine this year at half back (although I wanted JG), and next year we still have Chris Wells to go after. Plus Jason wouldn't make an extreamly dangerous offense that much over the top. We're still go'n to have a freaky offense, and even better defense! GO BUCKS!

AND GOOD LUCK JASON.

No cheap shots from me here, I'm glad that the fiasco is over. Best of luck to Gwaltney, I'd be lieing if I said that I didn't want him at OSU, but thats the way the cookie crumbles. I'm still feeling very good about our situation, and I think that Maurice Wells is ready to prove to us all that Gwaltney will be an afterthought by fall of 2005.

After Wednesday I will post a very funny story of how the conversation between JT and Gwaltney went.....

This, once again, shows you how tough it is to predict 18 year old young men's behavior---they mislead and sometimes outright lie to you--so you can never be sure...

perhaps we will bury the "Wstripes said it, so it must be 100% true" BS ---the reality is that no one is right all the time...
Darn, we have to wait until tomorrow to hear the inside story from Nevada and Alan!!! It should be better than JG's announcement.

Also, congratulation JG! Good luck in WV

I am honestly impressed with the behavior of this board regarding this announcement....I'm not too surprised with the regs, but I was unsure how our very new members would behave.

Great job all around guys.
Based on your day, did you expect some 'toothless' analysis by BN types?

JG to WVU

I've been tracking this JG thread for several weeks...and now that I had to register to this site to read your guys' reactions to JG's decision I figured 'what the heck, I might as well post'.

IMHO I think the draw of playing college football with his brother and the fact that JG is from Long Island (home of Amos Zeroue and tons of other former Mountaineers) had everything to do with his decision.

When he announced LAST February that he would come to WVU I didn't think we'd ever be able to hang on to him for an entire year....and I won't believe it until Coach Rod gets his LOI fax tomorrow!

As for WVU fans being 'unbearable' as someone wrote here....sorry, but we aren't used to getting FIVE star recruits like OSU is. This is the highest rated recruit we have ever landed. We are deliriously happy!

A recruiting has NEVER been better! :tongue2: We landed a Top 15 player and the #1 ranked kicker and #1 ranked punter which may not seem important, but when your special teams play was as bad as ours that is much needed help!

Thanks to the Planet for great coverage with Jason, job well done.

Well I for one am shocked and truly bummed we missed this kid. He is a tough nosed competitor that brings a will to win and a team first attitude too boot. This is a huge pick up for Coach Rodriguez. Congratulations!!!! I give credit too our staff for taking a good shot at landing this kid, too bad they couldn't close the deal. Hopefully MoWells will make us all forget. I think with Coach Peterson helping develop the line play it should make the difference with all the talent we have up front next year.

JG, I think you just might have made a mistake, sorry Bro.

All the Same,

Good Luck Jason!!!

I guess you haven't been paying attention. tOSU fans are probably the most appreciative fans, when it comes to understanding how much a quality punter and kicker are to a team.

This is the first time in my memory that OSU has "lost" a recruit to WVU; we also lost a recruit (Alex Daniels, from Columbus, to boot) to Minnesota, which also never happens; usually we're competing with Michigan, USC, Miami, FSU, etc. Go figure.... Anyway, congrats to the Mountaineers on landing Gwaltney (assuming that he doesn't change his mind in the next twelve hours or so).

OSU has won a lot of games with special teams. Those kickers and punters don't exactly pass the "look" test, but they can be very important as our Coach Tressel well knows.

No, I'm just staying positive. JamO and Ginn or just JamO? Easy choice.
I know I just had to razz you a little. Plus while JamO might be quite fast and athletic like Ginn, it would be hard to keep up the productivity he's had so far. Plus we have too much depth at WR to see him get tons of PT over there, as opposed to corner where we are a little lighter.

In terms of losing players to unusual programs, I'd rather lose JG to WV anyday than lose him to USC. Regardless of who they bring in next year, I'm sure that JG would have been one fo the starting RBs vs. tOSU in 08.
