  • On friday night, my wife and I went to the drive-in here in Ft. Collins. We hadn't been since last summer and had forgotten how much fun it was! How often can you see a movie on the big screen with a cold beer in hand and a stocked cooler nearby? At our local drive-in, they show two movies for $5/person total! And they're pretty current flicks too. We saw Pirates of the Caribbean II and Cars, though surprisingly, they played Cars 2nd. I was nodding off in the middle of it, so we bailed early. I was surprised that we left at 1:30 AM and the G-rated movie was still showing!

Anyway, if there's a drive-in near you, I recommend it. Quite a blast from the past!

Unfortunately, they closed the last drive-in here on Oahu several years ago...I think there may be one or two left on the outer islands. Obviously, the picture and sound quality blows compared to a theatre, but for shear fun you can't beat watching a flick in your own car out in the open air with your choice of "refreshments"...

bucks4me and I have gone to the Skyview Drive-In in Lancaster twice this year. First trip was for Over the Hedge and Poseidon, second trip was for Cars and X-Men III.

Nothing beats it. The two of us can go and take the 6-year old in tow, all three of us get in for $12.00. The rugrat gets to watch the first movie and then sleep in the back seat while we watch the second. We can pack a cooler with all our own drinks, and even pop some microwave popcorn before we leave, or stop at Target and get the exact same popcorn buckets they sell at movie theaters for $2.00 instead of $7.00.

$12.00 for two movies and we're not shelling out another $15.00 to $25.00 at the concession stand. Plus, our local drive-in has an FM transmitter, so you can tune the car stereo to 88.9FM and not have to deal with the awful mono-speakers.

EDIT: Oh ... and we get to smoke, which kicks ass!

But . . . did you get some, which is of course usually the attraction of going to the drive-in?

Grew up a few miles from one... we used to go all the time. Drive Ins are a dying breed because they don't make money. Movies theatres and drive ins make their money from concession sales... it's hard to do that when people bring coolers full of food and drink with them. They get very little from the Box Office...

Very true, LoKy. When we go we try to spend some money at the concession stand. Last Friday, we bought some popcorn and a diet coke for my sweetie's rum. They seemed to be doing a very brisk business at teh concession stand, so I'm hopeful that our own Holiday Twin drive-in will stay around for years to come. :)

The whole evening cost less that $20, which is hard to beat!
