  • I have a question. I have well water at my house and have a water/rust filtration system but my hot water still smells. I've already removed the magnesium rod from from the hot water heater that usually gives the hot water that rotten egg smell.

But the smell has come back. I was wondering if anyone has one of those whole house filters from Lowe's that's about $50 that filters the water before it goes into the water softener.

Didn't know if that would work or if anyone else has any recommendations.

Chances are that your water is coming out of a coal vein and has a high sulfur content. I'd recomend having your water tested. I'm not certain if you will ever be able to fully get rid of the smell without some professional help.

The well has already been tested and declared to be within all limits for sulfur content. My well is only at 74ft. which is pretty shallow for the area I live in. The people across the street are at 126 ft.

I 've grown up my whole life on city water and this well water crap is hard to get used to that's for sure.

I grew up on the well water and believe me, the city stuff took some getting used to also. I think I still like the well water better. Even my uncles house which did have smelly water but still tasted good.

I just feel like when I get out of the shower that I'm dirtier than when I got in.
