Welcome to the First Day of Winter

Well, I heard on the radio this morning that winter officially arrives today. Great! Only six months until spring here in this God-forsaken land.

We've already gone past the halfway mark of our annual snowfall here. Thank goodness I have a snowblower.

Spring isn't until the end of June up there?

I grew up in Michigan- about 35 miles in from lake Michigan, so we got lots of lake effect snow. It can be brutal. A rockin' snowblower is a must.

My parents recently retired and moved south (from MI). For the first winter, my Dad's favorite thing to do was watch the Weather Channel every day to see how much snow he wasn't dealing with.

You know, I love the snow at this time of year, but after the holidays who cares. The only outdoor activity I do in the snow is fish and I can do that any time of the year.

The older I get, the less I like snow. We really don't get much here in DE, maybe one big blast per year- the rest is pretty light. The problem is that even a few inches freaks everybody out so it can be a pretty big pain in the ass.

I never minded the cold but grew to hate snow.
I dread the sales calls to the midwest in November and December. Dallas was hit by an ice storm while I was there a few weeks ago. A few of those trips and I weigh which is worse, snow and ice or a hurricane.

My home has zoned heating and cooling and one furnace had not worked for over a month. We have had lows in the 30's but it heats up to the 50's and 60's during the day. I finally got the furnace fixed yesterday.

When it cools down like this I get to build the wife and kids a fire in the fireplace with my endless supply of firewood.

I am a dedicated watcher of the weather Channel. I feel your pain.
