Buddha's Hand...

Whoops. Here ya go.

Some kind of citrus fruit according to the web.

lthough it smells strongly of lemon, it has no juicy pulp hidden beneath its rind. Instead, the Buddha's Hand is grown commercially for its powerful zest. The aromatic rind is used to flavor lemon liqueurs and specialty vodkas, and provides aroma to lemon-scented cosmetics. Chinese and Japanese households hang it in their homes as a natural air freshener, and it even has a place in some religious ceremonies. Puzzled by how one might eat this fruit, I asked the vendors at the stall how they usually prepared it. They reported that Chris Cosentino, the chef of Incanto, divides the fruit in quarters and then uses a mandolin to thinly slice raw pieces of the fruit for an innovative (yet familiar lemon tasting) topping for fish. He uses the whole fruit, since Buddha's Hand lacks the bitter pith of other citrus fruits.

Welcome to BP, Buckeyehottie.

Can't believe it, either....

Had cactus fries, rattlesnake brioche, a rattlesnake tamale, buffalo skewers, and jambalaya made with buffalo sausage last week. All quite tasty.

Buffalo is a nice meat. Rattlesnake brioche sounds interesting! What kind of cactus was it, do you know? The flat, paddle looking kind that the red pear fruit comes from?

Oh! So not rattlesnake in a bread but rattlesnake on sticks! Yep, its napolitas which is what they call the prickly pear cactus in Mexico.

They scrape the thorns off, wash it, and slice it. Sometimes it's peeled first. Sort of ...okraish....in it's texture I thought but I ate it as a kind of boiled/sauteed item.

Prickly pear candy is some good stuff too. Usually like a soft gel (gummie), bright pink and really tart unless loads of sugar is added.
