Weird Question That Freaked My Wife Out.

I have told my family I want to be cremated and have my ashes used as a Donato's Pizza topping (ashes to ashes - edge to edge).

But I have also purchased one of those bricks outside the stadium. Since I don't plan to be buried I told my kids if they ever want to visit me - go see my brick.

For years I had this perception that cremation was bad... but after going to two funerals for cremated relatives and seeing how dramatically better the mood was vs an Italian boo-hoo event when the body is up there on stage... I have a new opinion...

Plus the fact my wife has already told mine she was burning my ass up.. probably to erase all evidence that she caused the demise...

I'm gonna burn her ass up too... but I'm also going to have her ashes made into three diamonds that I will give to each child...

I've told the NMR that I'm to be made into three diamonds, as well. One for each of my kids and the other a clit ring for her.

Then there's my Mom, who loves traveling and wants to be cremated so I can then sprinkle little bits of her all over the world when I travel . . . and be at least a bit depressed on all of my future vacations. :smash:

Fuckin' Jewish mothers, always fuckin' with their kids' heads 'n shit.

What sucks is that my family has a huge plot in NYC. My brother and I are the only two in my family not to be born there. My dad is already there, and my mom will go there. "The Family" wants to stay together, but, I'm sure I'll want to be with my wife once that happens. And if something happens before then I don't know where I'd go... don't want NYC cause I'm not from there and nobody would "visit" me. Ohio, only my mom lives here and I'm not tight with anyone from years ago... but I am a Buckeye. Then most of my adult life has been spent in Arizona and Miami, but no family there. Now I'm moving to Boston. So... Well, I do know I don't want to be creamated... I can't be certain what exactly happens when I die, or what type of things they may invent in the future... but, I'd like to keep my body in one piece.

"Tie Me At The Crossroads" by Bruce Cockburn
Tie me at the crossroads when I die
Hang me in the wind 'til I get good and dry
And the kids that pass can scratch their heads
And say "who was that guy?"
Tie me at the crossroads when I die

My brother-in-law is a pretty free spirit... fireman, EMT, diver, rugby player... who does a windjammer about every 2-3 mths (to keep his recovery diver certifications)

His will has my wife as the executrix.. and he's to be cremated... plus a hefty chunk set aside for a top shelf week long windjammer near St Barts for my wife and I... so we can toss his ashes in the sea... thanks Bro

Orthodox/Traditional Jewish do not believe in cremation. Or embaming.

Cremation is not allowed in Jewish law because the body was given to us as a gift from G-d who expects us to take care of ourselves and return in the best condition possible.

However, there is debate and changes in belief with schisms.

Cremation is prohibited by Jewish law.

Main Reason
Jews show "kavod" (honor) for the body that housed the spirit and the breath of God.

Another Reason
Too many Jews were burned to death over the centuries - during the Inquistion, in the wooden synagogues and ghettoes of Europe, in Nazi ovens during the Holocaust. It is in appropriate for us to willingly add to the cremation of our people.

Minor Reason
I was told by a funeral director that very often there are "cremains" from a previous cremation added to those given to the mourner, and some of the mourner's "cremains" given to the next mourner. It's not intentional; it is due to the nature of the process and the person hired to work the ovens.

I urge the traditional Jewish funeral. If there are truly financial problems, share them with your Jewish funeral director. I've never seen an honest presentation fail to receive a positive and helpful response.Best Wishes,
