Week 9 Games Discussion

There were several significant losses yesterday.

Of course, TTUN losing in East Lansing was the big one.

But Ole Miss and Kentucky both getting their second loss hurt the SEC narrative of trying to get 2 teams in the CFB. Of course, if Bama and UGA both have 1 loss after the SECCG, that will be hard to avoid.

SMU lost on a 100+ yard kickoff return in the last 30 seconds, which somewhat downplays their later matchup with Cincy. San Diego St and Brady Hoke got their first loss of the season to Fresno State.

Pitt got their second loss, and Iowa State got their third. Arizona State got their 3rd loss, making Oregon the only PAC-12 team with less than 3 losses and making it tough for them to find another meaningful win on their schedule.

Wake Forest, as 1 of 6 remaining unbeatens, should move into the top-10. Notre Dame will be close to the top-10 after beating UNC, which helps Cincy. UT San Antonio is the 6th unbeaten, but they have no chance at a NY6 bowl game.

Also, the 3 ‘ranked’ teams beaten by former #2 Iowa now have a total of 12 losses among them (Indiana with 6, Iowa State and Penn State with 3 each).

I think this helps UC. If SMU won, they would play them twice. With the Houston win, that gives them SMU in the regular season, and Houston in the conference championship.

Also, can you start the week 10 games discussion thread? I want to be the first to call Purdue over Sparty. :cool:

The question is why? Did all of the recruiting services miss on this guy? He was the #1 or #2 QB prospect of his class, depending where you look.

OC Jeff Scott left after 2019 to take the South Florida HC job. Coincidence? I don't know, but DJU shouldn't look this bad. Not that I mind, though.

The coordinator churn gets to everyone but Bama it seems.
Recent top3 Pro QBs:
2020
DJU, Clem
Stroud, tOSU
Bailey, Tenn -> entered portal this week

2019
Rattler, OU
Hilinski, SCe -> Northwestern
Mertz, Wiscy

2018
Lawrence, Clem
Daniels, USC -> Georgia
McKee, Tree

2017
Mills, Tree
Hunter, Clem -> Northwestern
Fromm, Georgia

... his performance doesn't seem that unusual to me. Looks good sometimes and has some really good skills, but just doesn't get it done consistently.
It's hard to say who will step up and develop as a QB, and who will plateau.

A good summary of all the B1G games this weekend, including the scUM QB question we all wonder about.......:lol::

Cade McNamara job security?
Anyone following Michigan this season will immediately notice that they are running some sort of a two-back system. Cade McNamara is the starter, but former five-star freshman quarterback J.J. McCarthy comes in for multiple plays a game. This isn’t a gimmick either — McCarthy comes in during pivotal moments and both runs and throws the ball. Yet you must wonder after McNamara went 28-of-44 for 383 yards, two touchdowns and one interception if he’s garnered some needed job security.

A lot of fans and media members alike are wondering why McCarthy isn’t starting, as he seems to flash every game. Yet, as freshmen tend to do, he made a mistake at a key moment, fumbling the hand off that led to Michigan losing this game. McNamara is the starter this season, but maybe he’s done enough to keep the job next year too. If that’s the case, it will be interesting to see if McCarthy stays or bolts for greener pastures.
