I don't know. Maybe at a job like Illinois he'd do okay...and I mean no offense by that. Well, maybe a little. :lol: But a pressure cooker like South Bend for a young, first time HC seems rough.

I don't know what targeting is anymore, but we've definitely had innocuous "helmet" targeting calls. And that looked helmet-to-helmet. Not shoulder like Wade.
That to me looks like the kind of tackle this penalty was made to get rid of.

He certainly hasn't shown much to indicate otherwise.

I know Freeman was well regarded, but a program of ND's stature hiring a 36 year old with zero HC experience seemed like a tremendous reach from the start. I know they were blindsided by Kelly bolting, but they just rushed right into hiring Freeman...probably because they didn't want him to walk if they shopped around. Whoopsies.
