Week 2 Games Discussion

If Ohio State had, say Purdue or Maryland coming in this week, there'd be at least some concern of a let down. And Kentucky is probably better than Purdue and Maryland and Florida is not as good as Ohio State. If I were Kentucky, I'd have spent much more time prepping for Florida during camp than Miami.

As usual, you make excellent, well reasoned points. I didn't watch the UK game (it was on SEC+), but I would suspect their game plan was pretty vanilla.

And who knows? Maybe Miami contends in the MAC this year? They might have one of those MAC teams that has the senior leadership to hang around big programs for 2-3 quarters.

Your points about a similar situation with Purdue/Maryland are valid. And a Kentucky upset win absolutely has a decent probability.

But based on what was seen last week and the situation with their RB, I was saying that it doesn’t seem like it’s a prime situation for an upset either. And with the game being in Florida, and Florida losing last year’s game, I’d be surprised if they came out flat or overlooked Kentucky.

Also with Florida having a new coach and system on defense and offense, I’m not sure how much off season prep Kentucky could have done. Stoops is a great defensive mind, and a very good HC. I’m sure the did do as much Florida prep as possible, but with the sample size of Sunbelt Billy at Florida being so small, I wonder how effective that prep could’ve been.

One thing too that came to mind is that I am not sure if the Purdue/Maryland parallel is a perfect fit for this situation since until last week, Kentucky was viewed as the favorite coming into this game for most of the off-season (they were ranked in the 20s while Florida was unranked) with many picking Kentucky to finish 2nd in the east while Florida was picked 4-6. I can’t think of any time in my life where Maryland would be picked to finish ahead of the Buckeyes in the B1G East. My point being, a let down game situation would be after a big win against an underdog that is being overlooked, and I suspect that in this case Florida was not really much of an underdog or overlooking Kentucky this year despite them opening up as 4.5 point favorites.

Take all these observations with a grain of salt however since I thought Brian Kelly was going to open up a can on FSU last Sunday
