Week 14 Games Discussion

Here's what I've learned.

- Winning your conference matters, until it doesn't.
- Conference title games are helpful, until they aren't. *OR*, they shouldn't hurt you provided that's the only game you lose. Just ask TCU.

- The significance of the regular season, and consequently The Game itself, is forever diminished, if not outright watered down. Because now, it can't be called 'The Game'. That implies and places a singular and overwhelming importance on this one time of the year. Almost all high holy days throughout the world are celebrated and marked on one given occasion. That was the beauty of this, or any other rivalry for that matter. There is a church like respect that such a day used to be held in, because you only got this one shot to make it worth while. But now, for the sake of the change in college football landscape, things of such mentioned beauty are fading. As the saying goes, "the more you have of something, the less one is worth".

- Conference divisions are a thing of the future, until playoff expansion and now it's a thing of the past? So are we going back to round-robin and removing the conference title games? Or will that be after some team gets left out after losing because their conference title game finally 'mattered' on their record?

- Patience is a virtue.. until it isn't. In this case, should there be a rematch with scUM, at least there is a much more clearly defined understanding of Day and this coaching staffs ability to win vs that team. Should expedite the new Head Coach searching process rather quickly, IMHO. If there's one thing the Cooper era gave us, is that the patience for such failure won't be tolerated again. There will be no 2-10-1. In fact, it's looking more like a 3 strike rule at this point.

- I'm starting to feel like an old man, and I'm in my very early 30's. I say that because this game, college football, seems to be passing me by. The precious emotional connection I had to it isn't what it wasn't was. And I know it isn't just me, because I've asked Gen X's and Boomers the same thing and they feel similarly. Expanding for the sake of an arms race that started by the SEC and their puppet master - ESPN. Butter, scraped over too much bread. Regional integrity and pride is almost non-existent. Hell, my old high school football conference was dusted 10 years ago. Now, the old rivalry games that used to be a big deal are "out of conference"... despite the schools being within the same county and the proximity creating the natural healthy competition among the kids and similar sized schools. And as a result, you pay more of my tax dollars to bus these kids farther and farther, while money spent by families doesn't stay in the county where it belongs.

- Fuck *ichigan. Regardless of how many times we play them.

- Fuck Bama, their fans AND the horse they rode in on. The fact they should be in because "we're Bama" is exactly why they're at the top of the list of annoyances.

- Props to the TCU QB, dude gave about all you could ever ask of a player. And when they fell short, he was noticeably emotional but did well to compose himself. Credit to him, he put that team and damn near the entire state on his back.

- Chili done right is good even as leftovers 3 days later, make sure to put a light spray of water on the cornbread so it doesn't dry up on you when reheated.

Yeah, all that, and don’t forget to tell people to get off your damn lawn.

Imagine being an Oklahoma fan right now. A top-5 all-time program, and your star young coach bailed for So-Cal and took his Heisman caliber QB and a stud WR with him.

And the team is headed for the SEC, leaving behind all the old rivalries except for Texas, who’s also moving.

And your team is 6-6 and could be headed to the frickin’ Cheez-It Bowl!
