Texas has been so desperate to hire a ready-made national championship coach off the rack. They actually thought they could money whip Saban into leaving Tuscaloosa for Austin because, “Were Texas!” That was never going to happen. When Urban wasn’t available they hired his assistants hoping to find the next Urban. After Urban became available they figured naturally they could money whip him into taking their job because, “We’re Texas!” Never mind that he’s a lifelong Buckeye, left a legacy in Columbus that he could only tarnish by taking another college job, and what the fuck does he care about Texas? They just can’t get it through their heads that the rest of the world doesn’t think as highly of them as they think of themselves. So, after Urban opted for the NFL, they turned to a Saban assistant thinking maybe they’d get the next Saban, completely ignoring Sark’s thoroughly mediocre history as a head coach. But he’s a great play caller! Sure, when he’s working for a good head coach who recruits elite talent. (Many of them also seem to think that offense is the only phase of the game that matters.)
They need to get over their fixation on Saban and Meyer and go find their own coach who suits their program. There are no sure things. They need to find someone who can coach, who can lead, and who can recruit the best talent in Texas. Stop looking for easy answers. That’s not working. Does the State of Texas not produce any coaching talent?
