Hawai'i kicker Kansei Matsuzawa decided he wanted to play football after taking a trip to the West Coast and catching his first-ever NFL game - and the rest is history

After returning to his native Japan, Matsuzawa taught himself how to kick by watching YouTube highlights of Seahawks kicker Jason Myers. After practicing in a local park and sending highlight videos out to more than 50 colleges, he finally got an invitation to kick from public community college Hocking College in Nelsonville, Ohio in 2021.

Matsuzawa became a kickoff specialist initially at Hocking College and would eventually work his way up to being the main kicker before getting an offer from Hawaii in 2023. Fast forward to Week 0 of the 2025 season, and Matsuzawa found himself in a position that most kickers dream of...
