Wedding gifts??

As someone who is getting married soon enough (mid Nov), I stand by cash as the preferred gift. This is especially true if they have been together a long time and have/are living together since they will likely already have most everything they need (this is our case).

We will use a registry, but only a small one out of obligation.

I'm a hypocrite - I never take my ring off, but I won't have sex with other men's wives while they're wearing a wedding ring.

BTW, I think that's a very stylish ring holder your wife has.

So THAT is what that little box was for. And here I put my $50 in it on my way out.

I agree with everyone. I would be a little disappointed if I received a ring holder for $100 when my friend could have used that money to buy me 10 lap dances at my bachelor party (which would be $ well spent).

I will tell the wife to look at the registry or give them cash.

This same friend gave me $ when I got married, so I think returning his $200 gift in cash would be appropriate.

Some of the gifts my wife and I received that we liked the best were some of the least expensive ones (personalized stuff). Besides the cash of course.

Thanks for everyones input and for confirming what I thought.

Haha - I was wondering why she moved her ring holder next to our bed instead of the bathroom where she used to keep it.

I'll be married in just over a month - I don't anticipate taking off my ring unless I'm going swimming in the ocean or something like that. I lost my class ring that way when I was in HS, and I figure the nagging that comes with taking the ring off will be better than the nagging that would come with losing it.

As for gift ideas, I'll echo the ideas of either cash or registry. Gift cards to the places where they registered would work too. Obviously, those are places where they shop and they'll probably buy the stuff they don't end up getting anyway. I know this for sure - it may make me an ass, but at least 90% of the stuff we might get from outside the registry will be given to charity. In most cases, if we wanted the item (or a different version of it) we would have registered for it in the first place.

In regards to rings, I take mine off when I swim, do dishes, or work in the garden. (God, I'm such a fucking woman. :slappy:) It's rather loose-fitting these days and has slipped off on several occasions. Usually about five minutes before I make an awkward pass at a drunk chick in a bar. :pimp:

Mrs. Katt never wears hers. It's even more ill-fitted than mine and would be lost in one of about a million buckets of paint.

Cash or a couple nice bottles of their favorite adult beverage for the gift.

married 4 years. dont wear it. I dont wear watches or anything just dont like it at all.

Cash or registry. I can't even count the crap (like your wifes ring holder idea) that we have still in the box.

I can't help but think of A Christmas Story when Ralphe opens up the dreaded bunny suit, to his dismay and horror. I'm not married, but I'll be pissed if people do get me crap that wasn't on the registry/caysh/gift cards.

I have a hard time with Christmas/Birthday presents sometimes because I get utter useless crap that I won't ever use. Yeah it is the thought that counts, I do agree with that, but what the hell are they thinking? :lol:

I read this post yesterday afternoon. I am in the Dominican Republic right now. I shit you not I just fucking lost my wedding band in the ocean this afternoon. I was swimming and it just came right off. At least it was my ring and not one of my wife's. Still sucks because now I have to go buy another one when we get back.
