Well, if Zurp is correct, then that explains all the scifi novels where the earth is protected by a really old space fleet. Being housed in the hollow moon and all, when the older species come a'calling, we just launch and destroy those guys. Easy peasy. Actually, believe it's good that we spend some money on space exploration, and not throwing missles at each other.....

If you believe Neil deGrasse Tyson, what we've spent, historically, on space exploration, is a drop in the bucket compared to our federal budget. Something like... if you take a dollar bill and cut it at the percentage of our budget for space exploration, you aren't even cutting into the ink on the paper - you're just shaving a tiny strip off the edge. By the way, I never fact-checked him, so believe it if you want to. Or don't.
Either way, I agree with you - more money should go to things like this, rather than a bunch of the other things we're doing.

This is how misinformation is spread. One person says something wrong, and then the rest of us sit back and let people believe it.
This is the internet and I'm not going to let this happen, this time.

The Germans beat us to the moon. On top of that, they were living there since WW2 ended... biding their time until they could come back and re-start their war. Check out this documentary: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Sky
