Post your Master List of the records then bro.

The NCAA publishes the list every year. You can buy the book if you like. Online, you can get it here:

http://www.ncaa.org/library/records/football/football_records_book/2005/2005_d1_football_records.pdf

Page 76 has the winning percentage list.

Michigan.................................... 125 842 275 36 .746 1,153

Notre Dame ............................... 116 802 263 42 .743 1,107
Oklahoma .................................. 110 749 285 53 .713 1,087
Texas ......................................... 112 787 310 33 .711 1,130
Alabama.................................... 110 764 299 43 .710 1,106

You'll notice Texas has 310 losses after last year. They didn't lose any this year.

Add in this year:

Michigan (849-280-36)--0.74421
Notre Dame (811-266-42)--0.74352
Texas (800-310-33)--0.71435
Oklahoma (757-289-53)--0.71292
Alabama (774-301-43)--0.71154

My source is Stassen. If there is one thing for sure, there is no definitive answers in College football historical information. People didn't much care back in those day. Hell, even today, I'll watch ... I mean physically WATCH a player fumble.. I'll see it 10 times in various replays... and, I go to the box score.... no fumble.

6 of one, half a dozen of another.

Just after New Year's Day 1906, the rules committee approved the forward pass. Although the identity of those involved in the first play to involve a legal forward pass has been the subject of debate, credit is usually given to Bradbury Robinson of St. Louis University. A halfback, Robinson threw the ball to a teammate in a September 1906 game with Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
The new rule, however, was full of conflicting restrictions -- such as a penalty of fifteen yards for an incomplete pass -- that limited coaches' freedom to experiment with the innovative play.
It was six years after its introduction that the forward pass really came alive. Before the 1913 season opener, Gus Dorais, Notre Dame's talented quarterback, practiced concise pass patterns with a talented pass catcher on the shores of Lake Erie during their summer break. In the Notre Dame-Army game, Dorais made the forward pass a vital offensive weapon by passing for 243 yards, primarily to his main receiver and future coaching great Knute Rockne.

Thus, since 1913 (when apparently the Forward Pass did not include a penalty for an incompletion)

Regardless if the records can be verified definatively or not, these are still what people are going to go by. If Ohio State doesn't become #3 on the NCAA's list, they aren't #3. Considering how many percentage points they are behind Texas, Texas would have to completely melt down to give Ohio State a chance to pass them.

It would take a lot, but by my count if OSU loses 4 in 4 years, and Texas loses 12, then we would overtake them. I do not expect this to happen, however you make it sound like Texas is way out in front, when that distinction only applies to ND and Michigan (in all-time wins).

I must admit, I don't understand what you're driving at here.

OK. Is it fair for me to say, then, that if the sun rises tomorrow, the sun will rise tomorrow?

I don't know about your book, I trust that it's well edited and such. It's "official" to the extent that the NCAA is the governing body. Fine by me. In any case, Stassen has each team's historic scores.. that is, a data base of every game listed, opponant, score etc. I don't know if the NCAA book does the same.

In any case, Stassen or NCAA, the same 10 teams appear at the top in nearly every iteration of "all time greatest" programs. Whats' the difference between OSU and Michigan in terms of all time greatness? Nothing, really... save for maybe games played.

What's noteable is that Miami of Florida is nowhere to be found. :slappy:

This sums things up nicely, and with a shot at "The U" to boot.
