Point margin in victories against common opponents:
UNC
Illinois 34 pts
VT 3 pts
Total: 37 pts

OSU
Illinois 25 pts
VT 18 pts
Total: 43 pts

Note: Both our games were away games. UNC played Illinois at home.
What I don't understand is if Conference Championships matter then why not compare Houston to NC? Basically identical teams but Houston has better victories and a UNDERSTANDABLE loss due to their QB being out that game.

What's North Carolinas best win? Va tech or Pittsburgh?

They didn't play FSU, didn't play Clemson to get to 11-1. The one non conference game they played worth a damn they lost to a poor ass SC team.

I think they'll get the Nod over OSU if they win but if the goal is to get the best teams that's not what they'll do by putting UNC in. They will be putting UNC In the play offs because they won't want to answer to questions from the media if they dont.

We will see how they rank UNC tomorrow, but in the last rankings it was pretty clear they don't think too highly of UNC, lowest rated 1 loss team behind 3 2 loss teams. A win over Clemson could change their minds, but we would have to see.

True... If they rank them similar to the AP we are screwed.

Never has such a mediocre win like NC state been so rewarding if they vault them to 8. That'd be six spots...

They just need to ask one question (the committee)

Would UNC beat Ohio State on a neutral field? That answer kind of makes the decision obvious to me.

FWIW, here's the B1G's bowl selection criteria:

http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools...c_non_event/Bowl_Determination_Procedures.pdf

Re: ROSE BOWL GAME PRESENTED BY NORTHWESTERN MUTUAL (Pasadena, Calif.)
1. When not hosting a semifinal, Big Ten Champion will play in Rose Bowl Game, unless among top four teams.
2. If Big Ten Champion qualifies for playoff, Rose Bowl Game will choose a replacement Big Ten team.
3. Rose Bowl Game has sole discretion on replacement team, and will generally select highest‐rated available team, but will take into consideration final College Football Playoff rankings, head‐to‐head competition, division champions and most recent Rose Bowl Game appearances.

Sparty's last Rose Bowl was in 2014
Ohio State went last in 2010
Iowa went last in 1991

I just don't think UNC jumps us if they beat Clemson but other weird things have happened. Plus I think they are just a product of a week schedule. Imagine if a team such as Wisconsin played those teams it is very likely Wisconsin would have the same record. ACC is weak except for Clemson and FSU.

I'm guessing teams above them losing has a lot more to do with the rise than their win over NC State.

It would come down to how much the committee actually values the ACC Championship. The ACC Coastal is on par in crap with the SEC East this year.

Do you take the team who lost to a 3-9 team, won a weak division, caught fire and beat Clemson in the ACC title game

or do you take the team who's only loss was to what may be a top 4 team (which knocked them out of the B1G title game in one of the more competitive divisions of the power 5)

Obviously a win over Clemson would be better then Ohio State's best win (Michigan).....but the loss to South Carolina is much worse then Ohio State's loss to Sparty.

That being said, the committee seems to have a decent amount of good thought for the Big 10 this year, while not so much for the ACC. So it could come down to their valuing of the conferences.

Unfortunately I feel sure we're going to end up in that 5th spot just out at the moment. Everyone has to lose to get us in they aren't going to vote us in otherwise. I'm starting to come to grips with it now so when it happens I'm not as disappointed. If the other happens, then I'll be stoked anyways.

If Bama and Clemson both win, I'll be fine with #5. It will be deserved. But if somehow Stanford or UNC get in it will be painful. And not because they aren't deserving, but I feel like OSU would be equally deserving and they would have just missed out.

I'd be OK with UNC getting over us if they beat Clemson. At the end of the day, I think conference championships (as a tie-breaker, between teams with an equal number of losses) have to matter; otherwise, we'd be heading down the slippery slope of ESPN fanboys like Frosted Tips arguing for 3 SEC teams getting in. In other words, I'd be beyond livid at a hypothetical in which a one-loss OSU may not get into the playoff even if it wins the Big Ten title game, because some people think the SEC should get two teams in because of the "eye test."

Stanford, though, is a different story. Even as conference champs, they have an extra loss. I think OSU deserves the nod over Stanford, even if Stanford beats USC this weekend.

I mentally count the ACC champ as having a +1 in the losses column all the time anyway

+ they knocked out ND for us
