Spain can play so beautifully in the midfield. One-touch passes, spreading the field, calm play. But all the defense has to do is stay organized in the back and Spain has no clue how to advance through.

Add in some terrible finishing and some solid goalkeeping and Spain looks mediocre.
And some help from the crossbar. :p

Spain is certainly one of the top 3 talented teams in the WC, but they have been there before and it's never amounted to anything. They'll find a way to tie and still advance.

Agreed. I think back to an early opportunity for David Villa. It was perfectly set up for a one touch finish from 8-10 yds. And he pulls some chickenshit move trying to flick it closer to center. It looked like a Landon Donovan move. To me it was indicative of the tentative play in the attack that has permeated this tournament.

Unlike many of the other matches so far though, they're at least making up for the lack of execution with some exciting, enterprising play. Even the Swiss are picking their spots wisely and are being dangerous when they can.
