WC - Brazil vs Cote d'Ivoire (Sun 2:30 ET, ABC)

This game perfectly demonstrates the need for post-game replay review. I do not think that we need any in-game replay. I understand the desire for it, but IMO the cons (immensely slowing down the sport) outweigh the pros. But post-game replay to evaluate yellow cards have no real cons, and they can also deal with the outrageously annoying act of diving. If you see someone blatantly diving (grabbing his face when he got hit in the chest)--kicked out of the next game, if video evidence confirms. If someone got a yellow that he didn't deserve, kicking him out of the next game--we can undo that. No reason not to install that kind of system.

On his 2nd goal, Fabiano got away with 2 handballs... It was difficult to see in the live action, but I thought it looked kinda fishy when I saw it happening. It wasn't blatant (and Ivory Coast didn't even complain) but it definitely could have been called back.

The Cote d'Ivoire goalkeeper did signal a handball right after the ball went past him, but the announcers seemed to miss it. But the ref joking about it with Fabiano was really strange.

Teams can appeal yellow cards for post-game review - but they are very rarely won.

If Brazil appeals, I don't expect Kaka's card to be overturned, since he did stick out his forearm as the guy was approaching him.

But the USA should appeal Findley's card for the 'handball' in the box that hit him on the jawline - and that appeal should be won since he did nothing wrong. We'll see what happens.

Bah - let him sit. He hasn't shown us much anyway. Give Buddle a chance to play up front, or perhaps Gomez.

Ivory Coast are all but eliminated now with Portugal's thrashing of PRK. They'll have to blow out PRK themselves, and hope that Portugal gets blown out in their own right by Brazil. Portugal is +7 in goal differential, Ivory Coast is -2.
