Washington Huskies (official thread)

yeah, don't recall exactly but I wouldn't want OSU to ever go to the mattresses with a kid over this.

You'll get killed in recruiting (HS or NIL)
I see both sides. Question for the legal crowd…..if a school give in like some say UWash should do here, does that mean that there is precedent set and that no potential NIL contract can ever be enforceable at UWash? If they stick to their gun, then, would it be more and more difficult to bust out of a contract with UWash?

sucks for the game of CFB

Thamel is reporting this and if that's true the kid is about to be bent over the barrel

I mean if the buyout is at their discretion it still has to be reasonable. I’d bet with all the bullshit associated with this lawsuit he ends up making quite a bit less at LSU than he would at Washington.

The second one of a school refusing to enter him into the portal is interesting. When this happened last year at Wisconsin the player had signed a 2 year memorandum of understanding because the house settlement hadn’t been reached (so he couldn’t sign a revenue sharing agreement).

From an article last year. The second paragraph is nuts and seems to invalidate the transfer portal window and process entirely.

Lucas's representation claims that after he was denied the right to enter the transfer portal, he unenrolled from the university. At that point, he claims that he connected with Miami and signed with the school. Wisconsin also claims it has evidence that Miami tampered with Lucas before he entered the portal.

"NCAA rules do not prevent a student-athlete from unenrolling from an institution, enrolling at a new institution and competing immediately," the NCAA said in a statement to Yahoo Sports.

Well if he signed that, he’s kind of fucked but still, as UW….what do you gain here?

Every agent in the game is going to be telling their clients to watch out for you.

Best case, you just self selected to pay more per player. Worst case, they won’t sign that kind of NIL deal no matter how much you pay them.

Let alone this actual player. Love to see how that hostage QB leading the team strategy plays out.

Stepping over dollars to pick up dimes.

You gain that kids don't sign and ditch without penalty if your contract is deemed as enforceable. Also apparently this is a big ten standard contract said both in this case and Wisconsin.

So it really feels like the little guys in the conference are being used to as pr fall guys while they figure out enforceable terms.

What do you gain by not acting? Why wouldn't other players in the future renege on their agreements/contracts if there are no repercussions. I don't think the answer is to just let players walk all over you either

So you want to be the place that forces guys to stay? Or makes it very difficult to leave?

Good luck with that. Why would anyone want to come sign on for that when if no one else is that restrictive?

Gain from doing nothing is to keep future recruiting ability in tact.

Yeah no I strongly disagree here. If contracts aren't worth the dirt the they written on why have contracts. It's not hard if you want to transfer don't sign the contract explore your options and only sign it if you are ready to sign it.

It's not some idealistic referendum on contracts.

It's the practical utility of what's to be gained by being positioned as the team that's going to restrict movement. Right, wrong or indifferent, in the marketplace that's not going be something that players and agents just gloss over.

It's something I'd make sure got handled privately if I am UW. You can still hold him to the contract but refusing to let him go into the portal just looks spiteful and, again, as a player looking at UW vs anyone else, you are now going to have to explain that and why would I as the player care that you "won" the argument and enforced your contract?

Pyrrhic victory if the rest of the market isn't doing the same thing.

Agent drops Demond Williams Jr. amid QB's portal dispute

Demond Williams Jr. has been dropped by his agent, Doug Hendrickson, in the wake of the former Washington quarterback's announcement that he will enter the transfer portal.

"I have made the decision to end my representation of Demond Williams Jr. effective immediately due to philosophical differences," Hendrickson posted Thursday on social media. "Demond is an incredible talent and we wish him and his family the best in their future endeavors."

In response to this, Williams has retained sports attorney Darren Heitner as legal counsel, Heitner announced on social media.

There is rumors of it being a big 10 standard contract. So at least they are doing it and if they are doing I would bet the SEC has something similiar see Georgia. If the 2 biggest players are doing it you have to play ball if you want to go to those schools.
