First of all, happy belated birthday, Nutty :)
Second of all, is your nephew adopted? j/k of course.
That's a tough question. On one hand, as a flesh and blood relative, you're pretty much obligated to treat him with love and kindness, and yet on the other hand, such an aggregious (sp?) act cannot be simply laughed off. I think you did indeed do the right thing by demonstrating that your allegience to the Buckeyes isn't a laughing matter, nor is it anything to trifle with.
Okay, now I have a little confession to make. My eldest brother (8 yrs my senior) went to graduate school at scUM. I know, it's a dirty family secret best kept in the dark, but as you can imagine, it has caused some, well, difficulties in the family. In fact, my older brother (5 yrs my senior) went to tOSU, so at least we have the eldest outnumbered (plus, both my folks love the Bucks). The rediculous thing is, he seemed to be a Buckeye through and through growing up, as our grandfather graduated tOSU in 1918 and instilled the Buckeye spirit in all of us. However, once he set foot in AA, he was never quite the same. He taunted us throughout the 90s while Cooper continually choked in the Big Game, and he evetually would say 'its not even a rivalry anymore'.
Now, I love my brother dearly but I've come to the realization that my love for him is limited to 364 days out of the year. In fact, this past Christmas, when we were all together, we didn't even mention The Game. It's not even polite conversation at our house anymore. So, Nutty, I guess what I'm trying to say is that if your nephew is truely a scUM fan (and it's not some silly youthful phase), then you're relationship with him will always change a little in the fall. Not that there's anything wrong with that. :p
