The Taos Police Department have arrested the man suspected in a rash of recent car burglaries over the past month.
Ryan Griffin, 27, has been charged so far with auto burglary, fraudulent signing of a credit card slip, possession of a stolen credit card and fraudulent use of a credit card. Upon searching Griffin?s car, officers found an array of handbags, ski equipment, backpacks and apparel that may have been stolen in the burglaries of the past three weeks.
Arresting officer Sgt. John Wentz said Griffin was caught based on a pattern in the burglaries of breaking into a vehicle, stealing items from the vehicle and using credit or debit cards the same day, usually at the same area stores.
?We got a report of a burglary yesterday (April 2) and an officer went to Wal-Mart, where an employee said the suspect had just been,? Wentz said. ?I was already at Albertson?s on another call and I spotted the suspect?s car in the parking lot across the street.?
Police identified Griffin?s car in connection with the recent burglaries after an El Monte Segrado valet worker reported tags matching Griffin?s car after a burglary along Kit Carson Road on Easter Sunday. Detective Barry Holfelder said Griffin also had criminal records in Texas and Arizona.
Wentz said that as the investigation continues, Griffin may be charged in connection with as many as 12 other burglaries.
