VPN Service Recommendations?

I feel like I wasted my money with NordVPN. I rarely use it anymore. Half of the connection types they advertise don’t ever show up, like double VPN. Onion is rarely available anymore and half the time I can’t even connect to a webpage when I use it. Pretty worthless....

Both. I have it on my cell phone and my laptop.
I guess what I am getting at is if you just need a VPN when you are away from home you can setup an OpenVPN server in home and configure your phone and laptop to connect back to your home network whenever you are not connected at home. All traffic would get funneled through your home ISP. Wasn't sure if that's what you were going for or if you even wanted your home traffic going through a VPN.

Recently converted my company to Ubiquity and Sophos across the board for WiFi, Firewall, and VPN. Couldn’t be happier.

Try Sophos UTM for your home VPN and firewall. Can run as a virtual instance in VirtualBox or HyperV, or install on bare metal if you have an old PC with two NICs (or buy a NUC for the task).

Sophos is so dedicated that they will actually call YOU if you get infected with Ryuk.

So at home I run the Unifi USG + switches + APs + Protect. I love having everything integrated in a platform. My only complaint is that the USG is lacking as a firewall, especially if you enable threat management it kills your throughput. Is Sophos free for home use? I can run it as a VM but would likely prefer to run it bare metal. What are the pros/cons of Sophos?

I was a fan of Ubiquitis USGs until they started phoning home with network telemetry data. I switched to a VM of pfSense and haven’t looked back. Only downside it much less user friend setup than say USG or Meraki.
