Vision - Glasses, Contacts, LASIK, Born Right

I got lasik done on my right eye in Sept 2000. It was 20/200 before the surgery and 20/15 after...they wouldn't do my left eye because it was only 20/35 (their baseline was 20/40). Nearly 13 years later the right eye is probably no longer 20/15, but I passed my last drivers license renewal eye test two years ago easily. I had been wearing contacts for about five years before getting lasik. One of the best decisions I've ever made was to get the lasik done.

Yeah, I had LASIK about 20 years ago. It sure beats wearing glasses and/or contacts. Unfortunately LASIK doesn't stop cataracts. I was going to wait until next year (Nov 2021) before my drivers license renewal; however, with what's going on this year.....see below:

And today at the age of 72 I don't ever have to wear glasses again. I can actually see a golf ball sitting on the green from about 160 yards out. Cataract surgery in your later years will be a blessing to a lot of you. They have performed many miracles in the form of eye surgery and they continue to get better. It's incredible what eye doctors can do, now in these days.

Well, I sure hope you are right. Tomorrow is the left eye and next Monday is the right. It's supposed to be a fairly quick and painless procedure.....we'll see.

Sorry, I meant to type "No worries, one of the best decisions I ever made."

Actually I did have one eye done in the late 1990s. (Procedure was new enough that I was not risking the second.)

I had worn glasses every day of my life from the time I was about 9.

Had the procedure, then took a nap with a patch over my eye. When I took that patch off it was one of the most surreal and emotional moments of my life. To be able to see perfectly without glasses!!

The procedure is scary because nobody like to have someone screwing with their eyes. But it was quick and painless even then.

Twenty odd years later I have cataracts and wear contacts in both eyes. Looking forward to having the procedure done in both when the time is right.

Have thought about surgery over the years, but I tolerate monthly wear gas contacts well. Still, since I’m now past that needing reading glasses stage, it might be worth looking into again. My natural vision is extremely nearsighted (contacts always have to be ordered because they’re stronger than what’s kept in stock) with a touch of astigmatism.

Received my first pair of corrective glasses on Thurs. 20/25 vision, but got progressives for seeing detail in the distance and reading assistance in the bottom. Tilting my head to see different things is gonna take a bit of time to adapt to.
