That particular intersection is well known for high speed crashes. It is part of one of the few "long" straight pieces of road on this tiny island and it is common for super car owners to go out in the wee hours, after nightclubbing, to "take the car up to speed." A week after THIS crash, there was another one.
Road safety here is not very good. It is perfectly legal, for example, to nose up to a cross walk during a turn, while people are IN the cross walk, and s l o w l y nudge further into the crosswalk and/or drive through the barest second someone is out of the way. FREAKS ME RIGHT THE FUCK OUT. Only in "zebra crossings" does the pedestrian have the right of way and every driver lets you know it if you aren't in one. It weird tho because in the case of an accident fault is immediately 50/50 until an investigation is held. Whoever is held liable is then responsible for full medical coverage of the injured party, no questions asked. For death, compensation is paid to the remaining family. So you would THINK drivers would be more careful.
