Vegas seems to like us (BCS ODDS)

Geez, those odds on USC are ridiculous. But probably accurate. I don't think I've ever seen preseason odds like that before.

funny how things change with no real info to base it on...
I bet it was a bunch of you Buckeye fans laying cash on the 12-1. I would have been tempted by that as well. Decent value there.

And it's been discussed before I'm sure, but I'd jump all over these if I were more of a betting man:

Purdue 200:1 No Michigan or tOSU. That is the weirdest conference scheduling quirk I have ever seen. And Iowa is a home game. They'll probably end up 8-3 like they always do, but 200:1 with that schedule and 20 returning starters? Very good value.

Louisville 50:1 Who do they play? West Virginia? If they don't go at least 10-1 with that pansy ass schedule it'll be underachieving.

Okay, I can't go to sleep, so I worked out the odds by conference. Because odds like 300:82 (the exact odds for the Big 10) don't make much sense, I rounded a bit.

Pac 10- 5:4 Not surprising given USC's odds
Big 12- 4:1
SEC- 4:1
ACC- 4:1
Big 10- 15:4 or somewhere between 3:1 and 4:1
Big East- 33:1

Bit of a disparity there with the Big East.

This way, it's also easy to see Vegas will get double the sum of the total bets if they are evenly distributed.

Don't remember the odds, but dammit if I almost had my dad throwing $1,000 on the '03 Fiesta Bowl vs. Miami (OSU +13?!?!?). I took several bets at work (OSU +10, Miami scoring less than 30, 14 pt. differential at the half) and collected heavily with a huge smile on my face. Although I'm gonna need to see a season's worth of work before I throw cash on someone to win it all. (USC is pretty tempting, but since you never know....) God bless whoever puts hard-earned cash on OSU this year. Not me....

Let me add, in '02 I worked at Fleetwood Motorhomes in Decatur IN, with fans who root religiously for the Notre Lame Fighting Amish, Purwho Boilermakers, and freakin' Indiana, depending on who is having the better season. Easy bets when it comes to the Buckeyes. I even had a guy offer to quit his job (12 years) if OSU won the whole thing, after both OSU and ND started 8-0. I wore a #7 jersey and a Buckeye necklace every Friday. They hated 'em and I loved every minute of it. (He kept his job, the jackass....)

We were 10-1 before Snider left... then went to 12-1... then all of a sudden they popped us up to 7-1... funny how things change with no real info to base it on...
The 18 returning starters have something to do with that, especially with Hawk, Holmes, Ginn, and a host of great offensive and defensive players.

Is there anyone in the PAC 12 that might give USC a battle? Washington is going to still be in a state of coaching confusion, Cal lost a lot of talent. Arizona and Arizona State are down I think. Oregon and Oregon State will lead the nation in the ugly uniform race, but I don't think that will put points on the scoreboard.

Both Stanford and UCLA played USC very tough last year (31-28 and 29-24, respectively).

There are a number of posts that seem to be about whether a team could make it to the title game due to an easy schedule (ie Purdue). However, the chances of many of those types beating USC/Tennessee/Texas/OSU are quite minimal :)

Was out in Vegas , fall 02, and the odds makers and betters were just freakin out trying to figure out that 02 team! Lots of ND betters, of coarse! Nd betters were really getting on OSU for winning so close! Lots and lots of losers betting the line on OSU! They hated us with a passion! We did get the last laugh!
