Vegas Ideas/Sportsbook Advice

DaytonBuck

I've always liked them
I got some great advice from LV, Piney, STX and from many other people when I posted any earlier thread about getting a hotel. I'm gonna be out in Vegas the 14-18. I'm looking for general ideas on things to do out there. The group I'm going with is all mid 20's and we're looking to do some partying as well as gambling.

As far as the big clubs go, how hard is it to get in? what kind of dress code do they have? How much money will I drop in one of those places?

What are the alternative places to drink at and hit on girls? What are the best places to get cheap drinks? Any must go places late night after some drinking?

Strip Club recommendations? Any things to check out along the lines of car collections, fountains, roller coasters, dave and busters/gameworks type stuff? Stuff that might be worth checking out during the day.

Good, affordable palces to eat?

Can anyone explain to me how a sportsbook works out there? Could I parlay Duke, UNC, and Ohio State straight up against the sisters of the poor? Could I take OSU straight up against Southern Dayton State? What are the best types of bets to make in there? Which is the sportsbook to go to?

the one I've been in were the one in the Palms, "Rain" but there are more hot girls in there than in any one place I have ever seen. Wait is hours, line starts at noon and it's only open Thurs.-Sat., unless you get VIP passes which can be bought for like $30 on-line. Drinks are not cheap ~$5 a beer IIRC.
Strip Club recommendations?
Sapphires is a big club with probably the most/hottest girls. Last time I was there though you couldn't sit at a table on the floor w/o buying a $300 bottle of liquor. Don't fuck around there, owners are Russian mob and fuck people up when they are being assholes. Cheetahs is pretty good too, and not as expensive. Don't go to the Las Vegas Scores, it sucks.
Stuff that might be worth checking out during the day
:slappy: my man everyone sleeps during the day.
Could I take OSU straight up against Southern Dayton State? Which is the sportsbook to go to?

yes you could it's called the moneyline. In the example you gave OSU would be about -3000, which means you have OSU straight up but you have to bet $3000 to win $100. The sportsbook at the Hilton is the biggest in the world (or so they claim) and have numerous future bets. They have a large seating area also and as long as you have a betting ticket you can drink for free (the sportsbook waitresses at the Hilton are older than dirt, and less attractive). The LV Hilton isn't on the strip per se so you could check out Caesar's also, it is pretty sweet.

I live here in Sunny Las Vegas so I can help....

As far as the big clubs go, how hard is it to get in? what kind of dress code do they have? How much money will I drop in one of those places?
Clubs on The Strip require collared shirts, no hats/headwear, no sneakers, no jerseys...
Clubs attached to a bar (Coyote Ugly) require upscale casual dress - no hats, collared shirt (may wear jeans and nice shoes)

What are the alternative places to drink at and hit on girls? What are the best places to get cheap drinks? Any must go places late night after some drinking?
Try the Circle bar (its outdoors though) at Harrah's. Studio 54 is good for ladies because of the name (they just want to say they have been to it). After parties-clubs that only open after midnight- are the money shot, they include Drei's ( pronounced like the Dre in Dr.Dre) in Barbary Coast, Seven or Ice. At Ice and Seven be prepared to spend REDICULOUS amounts of money and look fabulous, this is a hollywood spot- Long Island Ice teas=13.50 a glass.

The Ghost Bar (on top of the Palms) and Rain at the Palms are celebrity hotspots where if you got a fake story you can hit up the ladies.

Dylan's in Henderson is the best- $20 beer mugs to take home-one time fee $20 bucks and drink for free the rest of the night with no cover charge!, hot country wanna-bes, line dancing to rap music and booty ass shaking to country music. Its just no where near the srtip, its 15 mins away (but thats where me and the wife go and we are by no means country)

Strip Club recommendations? Any things to check out along the lines of car collections, fountains, roller coasters, dave and busters/gameworks type stuff? Stuff that might be worth checking out during the day.
Remeber the golden rule!!!!- if there is beaver, there is no alcohol!!! Stip joints in Vegas have 2 breeds:
1. Full nude but no alcohol
2. Just topless with alcohol

Lil' Darlings - totally nude, no alcohol
Olympic Gardens is nice, just don't go to the wrong floor (you can find that out on your own) they are option 2
Typically there isnt too much good stuff, they will usually get shut down quickly for prostitution if they are good!

There IS NOT prostitution in Vegas! IT IS ILLEGAL!!!
It can only be down in NYE county which is not near Vegas. (Psst... go to the middle bar in the Palms on the ground floor, you will see ladies leave for 15mins with a dude then come sit next to some other dudes all night) Ahem... THERE IS NO PROSTITUTES IN VEGAS, dont get caught!

Good, affordable palces to eat?
The Grand Buffet at Rio, $20 a person but you will die from gluteny.
The 'O' Buffet at Bellagio is $40 but you will die from seeing the heavenly light of the Filet Mignon- on BUFFET!!!!!
Eating is not cheap, look for buffets or ask for 'Comps' when gambling on the floor at table games- Craps and Roulette give alot of Comps for free meals to there customers.

Can anyone explain to me how a sportsbook works out there? Could I parlay Duke, UNC, and Ohio State straight up against the sisters of the poor? Could I take OSU straight up against Southern Dayton State? What are the best types of bets to make in there? Which is the sportsbook to go to?
A money line bet means you bet this to win this, example:
OSU -180
UF +240 means bet $1 on Florida to win $2.40 or bet $1.80 on OSU to win $1 (you original bet plus the moneyline is what the book gives you) if you bet $1.80 on OSU to win and they did you get paid the sum of $1.80 and $1 = $2.80. Understand?
Betting $100 dollars for UF to win straight up would pay a total out of $340 to the bettor.

Betting the spread/ or betting the odds
OSU -8.5
UF over/under 41 Means if you bet on OSU to win, they must win by more then 8.5 ( basically 9 points) or you bet that Florida will win with the help of 8.5 more points- a tie is a push and you get your money back. Easy way to do it is just read the line, at the end of the game take 8.5 points off OSUs score or add 8.5 to Florida (whoever you bet for)- did they still win, then you win. The over under is just like it sounds, will the two teams score over or under 41 pts, you pick over or under.

Spread or betting the O/u pays just less then 1:1 - if you bet $1 and win, then you get your $1 and $.90-$.95 = about $1.95 total.
Betting $100 on OSU to cover ( to win with -8.5 pts) pays the winner a total of about $195.

Parlay is a fancy name for stringing bets, you can parlay any 'like bets' together. You pick the games of the board and then if they all hit, you get more money. a 3 teamer (3 winning bets) usually pays 3:1 (instead of less than 1:1 three times or a total of 2.8:1) 4teamers about 9:1, 5 teamers about 20:1 six teamers about 50:1 seven teamers about 160:1, 8 teamers about 400:1, 9 teamers about 800:1 and 10 teamers about 1000:1. You can only parlay spread or O/u bets. Never thought about straight up, plus the house doesn't normally have straight up odds on college because you know 99% of the time the favorite will win.

Rio has a nice book with the bar right behind it, Ceasars and Bellagio have huge books with nice chairs and your own TV to watch. Other than that, every other casino just has a 'nice' book. You cant go wrong here on where to watch a game.
Sports betting is tough to understand if you are not a math buff, pm me for more info on that and I will try to break it down better!

I would love to run the vBookie here, you guys would be broke cause there would be so much action (bets).

I have stayed in the Luxor, New York NY and the Bellagio. If you guys have the money, I recommend getting the best rooms you can, DO NOT scrounge the rooms. Part of the experience is living phat, so you gotta go pimp on the accomedations too. Luxor is sweet but is on the end of the strip, NY NY is good but usually full and expensive, Bellagio?- FUCKING CRAPTACULAR- but expensive and the hoes love to hear you got the money to spend on staying at The 'O'. T.I. is the same as Luxor, sweet room deals but you have to walk to the heart of the strip or pay $20 a ride from the cabs.

Thanks for the help sparky and man. Any tips on the best places to find women of questionable morals? I've heard the Beaches/Beach? club recommended.

The Beach is a college hang out with beer bong competitions for free, and yes the women do it too, so its not their morals so much as their judgement that will be questionable!!!

Look for the bachelorette parties or any club, they will have your girls... they are looking for the same thing, why else come to Vegas? If you wanna gamble, go to Mississippi/Detroit/Windsor - if you wanna party and F**k then go to Vegas!

Can I get a hell yeah?

If you want to pay to play, Vegas is full of street vendors cracking hooker catalogs at you. Can't miss 'em.

There is alot of terminology and information to understand. To start with, here is my basics...

At the book, it may look like this:

Ohio State -3 -140
41 Michigan +135

The Spread: almost all games have a point spread
Favorites are denoted with a - sign
Underdogs are assigned a + sign
Example~ If the Bucks were 3 point favorites against the Wolverines they would be -3. The Wolverines would be +3. If you felt that the Bucks were likely to win by 2 points or less or to lose, you would take the Woverines (+3). If you like the Bucks to win by a margin of 4 or more, you would pick the Bucks (-3). If the Bucks won 17-14, tahts a PUSH and all money would be returned. Betting on the spread in singular games usually pays slightly less than 1-1 (or if you wagered $20 and won you would recieve around $19 in return, or $39 total back)

The Money Line: If you are big on Baseball, or dont want to do math on the score then you have the money line. All you do is pick a winner. If you pick a favorite to win without using the point spread, Bucks -3 vs Wolverines +3 again, the payout will be very low. It works in the reverse when you pick an underdog to win out right however. The oddsmakers determine the odds for the moneyline and they are constantly changed and updated.

At the book, it may look like this:

Ohio State -3 -140
41 Michigan +135

The last set of numbers is your moneyline, the bets placed will have to equal these numbers (you get it, hold on).
If you bet on the Buckeyes straight up, you have to put $140 on them to win $100 (goes back to the favorite winning over underdog). Or bet $14 to win $10.
If you bet the underdog (Wolverines because the -3 / +135) you will get $135 on a $100 bet.

The winnings play out like this, add all monies that you are owed from your win plus your original bet and thats whats paid out- back to the Bucks win...

You bet $20 on the Buckeyes straight up. They won so you get your bet: $20 and your winnings: $14 for a total cash in hand of $34. You get $14 for the win because you have to do a little math, the moneyline odds is basically 1:1.4 like I said bet $14 to win $10 OR bet $1.40 to win $1.00.

You bet $20 on the Woverines to win instead, and they did some how, now you get paid better for betting on the underdog:$20 for the bet and you get paid in winnings: $27 for a total cash in hand of $47. Now the moneyline odds reverse to 1.35:1 meaning bet $1.00 to win $1.35.

Do you see the relation between moneyline and betting? It is tough because I am lazy and hate typing, I wish I could just attach audio and explain it out loud.

Over/under is easy, back to my example you see the number 41 out front to the left of the teams. This is the total score of the game, will it got over or under? Thats is, Thats. It. It pays 1:1 and if the total score in the tOSU/UM game was 41 you push and get your bet back.
Final score was 31 to 7 and you bet $10 on the under, total score in this game is 38,so.... you win your bet plus your bet or $10+$10 for $20 cash in hand.

Whew, thats it for my early edition of volume1, the Vegas bettor. Good luck and Goodnight.

thanks a lot for the help Sparky. Are the odds much different from casino to casino? Do some off more betting options?

The "CASINOS" dont actually make the lines, the sportsbooks are not affiliated with the casinos. Like in the Terribles Casino, the sportsbook is owned by Leroy's Sports. The Station Casinos use Las Vegas Sports Authority. That is where small disparities will come from (maybe $10 on the moneyline or .5 pts on the spread and O/u.)

When you are on the strip, it is very very rare to catch a difference in lines (this year it happened once, the Tenn-LSU game had multiple lines all over, ranging from LSU-3 all the way to LSU+5) The purpose is so you cant go shopping for odds. Las Vegas has a collective pool for sports gaming and doesnt like getting screwed, all casinos pull out of the same bank so they make sure to coordinate well on the big games.

Oh and if you are a whale (someone who can gamble over a million dollars) DO NOT BET IN A BOOK. If you bet too large, the game will be pulled from the lines and no bets placed will count. Its called buying the points....

OK Volume 2, buying points....

Volume 2, Buying the lines

Hypothetical Scenarios!!!!!!

If you sit in a sportsbook all day you will notice that the lines change once or twice a day. What happens is this, we all know tOSU is gonna blow out Florida because we watch every game. BUT someone in the sports gaming industry thinks that just because its the finals it should be a close game, so on Monday the casinos open the line at :

Ohio State -.5
Florida

Ohio State is now favored to win by half a point!!!! So now every bettor in the world starts pouring money into that line because the tOSU is going to win by atleast 10. The books are taken in millions on the Buckeyes so if they win they are going to go broke. What do they do now? They move the line until money comes in on Florida so they can try to get money in on a loser. So Monday night now we have:

Ohio State -2
Florida

But it didnt work and money is hitting hard so Tuesday opens at:

Ohio State -3.5
Florida

Now the betting is slowing down but no Florida takers, Wednesday?:

Ohio State -4
Florida

Now Florida money is coming in and cooling off the "meltdown".
This was a drastic apocalyptic example, but YOU can MAKE it happen with money....
Say we all BPers gots the loot man, millions, all of us. What we do is "buy the line" we go into different books and put millions into OSU and the books move the lines again!!!! The books just got hit for $10mil on tOSU at -4 so they REALLY move the lines to:

Ohio State -7.5
Florida

We go back on Friday and bet the houses on Florida +7.5, everything we got. So now we have 2 tickets, one says tOSU -4.5 and the other says Florida +7.5 the game ends up 24-17 tOSU wins. What happended? Look at the tickets....

tOSU 24-17 Florida = OSU by 7
so our tOSU tickets (OSU -4.5) win!!!! osu-4.5= 19.5 -17 OSU still won!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!BUT!!!!!!!!!!
Our Florida tickets are good to, so.... Florida +7.5 or 24 tOSU to 24.5 Florida WE win again!!!!! Everything we bet wins!!!!!

OK, so we dont have millions and never will, so why do I mention this? For one, the casinos would have dropped the OSU/UF game if we hit them like that... its happened before in college basketball, look it up.
For number 2, you have to know when to "buy your line".

In our example the best time to get in for us was Monday, OSU was losing the least amount of points and had the best chance of winning against the spread as compared to later in the week. In the case of Tenn/LSU a few months back the casinos opened up with LSU as the Underdog to Tennessee by Thursaday it was off the books because everyone took LSU plus the points and then by the end of the week they also went and took Tennessee with the points because the spread flipped over to Tennessee as a 5 point underdog (or +5) so people had both LSU +3 AND Tennessee +5, You basically couldnt lose if the game was close, so Vegas couldnt win and took it off the books- no more bets please.

Now, if you don't like Mondays line, you can wait and hope its moved more favorably in your direction. Such the case in our example, if you like florida but think they will need 4 points (more then the .5 they got on monday) you can wait to see if they move the line up (like in our example).
