vCash is virtual cash. New posters start out with $10,000 in their accounts. The value is displayed behind the 'Points:' indicator on the upper right portion of your posts. Note that any vCash that is currently placed on vBets that have not yet been settled will not show in your vCash points.
Additional vCash can be earned by either donating actual cash to BP, winning contests that award vCash, and by winning vBets. Small amounts of vCash are also given for each post made on BP.
Any donation to BP gets somebody vCash for every dollar they donate to BP (10,000 per each dollar in 2011), and that amount is doubled, with an equal amount coming from BB73's account. So just a donation of $5 earns v$100,000 right from the start. And donations also earn a Donor banner for 2011, which appears to the left of where the vCash/points are displayed.

vCash can be wagered in something called vBets. These can be seen as actual forum threads, but they have a '$' to the left of their title in the forum list, and they also say 'vBookie' at the start of their name. To place a vBet, once inside the thread, type the amount in the box at the end of the line you want to wager, and then click on the 'Place bets' button below and to the left of the betting lines.
Currently open vBets can be seen in a list by clicking on 'Bookie' in the upper-right area of most screens (to the left of 'Arcade'). There are many individual game vBets (against the pointspread and over/under bets) created during the football season in the College Football and Pro Football forums. Additional vbets are created by vBookies throughout the year for all types of sporting events, and occasionally for non-sporting events.
If you have a good idea for a potential vBet on BP, please post it in this thread: BP.vBet.Ideas
vCash was formerly used to buy team icons, but that part of BP has been disabled due to a security issue, so that's why you'll see others with team icons to the far right of their avatars, but those can no longer be acquired.
Additionally, each time a new vBet is created, every BP poster that has less than v$1.00 in their account receives a gift of v$100. So if you don't have very much vCash, it's in your best interest to go 'all in' on some vBet in order to get some free vCash when the next vBet is created.
Pointspread Odds - how they work:
If you place a bet of v$100 on a line that says 'tOSU -6.5', and the odds are 1/1, tOSU needs to win by at least 7 points in order to 'cover' the pointspread and win the bet. If tOSU wins by at least 7 points, you would get back v$200 for winning the bet (100 wagered + 100 in winnings). If tOSU wins the game by fewer than 6.5 points (or loses straight up), the vBet is lost and no vCash is returned.
Conversely, if you bet on a line that says tOSU +6.5, that line would pay out winnings if tOSU wins outright or loses by fewer than 6.5 points.
Uneven Odds
If the odds are something other than 1/1, the winning payout amounts are not simply double the amount wagered. Foe example, if the odds are 4/1, a winning line would return v$5 for every v$1 wagered ($4 in winnings plus the wagered $1). If a winning bet is made on 5/2 odds, v$7 is paid out for every v$2 wagered. In terms of a math formula, the payout is the wagered amount times the (numerator + denominator), divided by the denominator.
If the line is 'odds on', meaning it had more than a 50% chance of occurring, the odds would be something like 1/6 (like the UConn women winning the 2010 NCAA tournament). That means that only v$1 in winnings is returned for every v$6 wagered; so a winning v$600 bet would return v$700. The above formula still applies.
Occasionally, odds may be listed as Fighter A (-200) vs Fighter B (+150). The negative number is a different was of saying that Fighter A is odds on to win, in this case his odds are 1/2; thus v$100 is returned in winnings for every v$200 wagered (v$300 total returned). Fighter B (+150) means that v$150 is returned in winnings for each v$100 wagered (v$250 total returned), which is the same thing as having odds of 3/2.
